Where do you pump at work?

I have to go back to work in a week and I am worried about where to pump.  I work in a high-end department store as a sales associate and there really isn't anywhere I can think of to do it in private.  The only places I can think of is either doing it in the bathroom or going in the backseat of my car.

Re: Where do you pump at work?

  • Is there someone at work you can talk to about this? At my place (gymnastics academy) there's a private dressing room that I could use. Other than that, there's my office which isn't private, so I'd bring a nursing apron along or something like that just in case someone happened to walk in.

  • I pump in my car only because I work in a busy restaurant and there really isn't any place "private" to pump besides a bathroom stall and I'm not sitting on a toilet and doing that. The office has a huge window on the door and there is a storage room but employees are constantly in and out of there. I'll park in a secluded spot and put a blanket over me, turn on the radio and pump. I don't mind it and if someone sees me then whatever!

  • My FT job has mom's rooms specificially for pumping mothers.

My PT job was as a server. The managers let me use the office to pump.

I worked retail years ago, and there was a manager's office in each department. You don't have a place like that wherer you can pump?

  • As pp stated, they are legally obligated to provide a private, window free room with an outlet for you to pump.

  • Thank you all!  I didn't know they were legally obligated.  I will talk with my boss.

I'd recommend talking to HR instead of your boss to start, juat to see if they already have something in place. Not many people are familiar with the laws regarding this and there are some businesses that are exempt from parts of the provisions.

  • With DS1 I used an empty office since I share an office with a coworker. This time there aren't any empty offices so I have to talk to HR before going back to work to make sure they have a place for me to pump.

  • I work at an airport. We do not have any nursing rooms here. My Hr found me a rarely used room that only the fire dept has access to. It has a couch and bathroom..its perfect for my needs

  • If you work at a department store, couldn't you use a dressing room? I've used them to BF the couple of times I've been out, haha.
