DH holiday gifts

What are you getting your husbands for Christmas or Hanukkah?  Do you have any repeat gifts that you get every year (i.e. a favorite cologne)?

I feel like my husband is so tough to shop for.  He's really specific about brands.  He isn't really into sports.  He already has a ton of tools (anything he would want is out of our price range). Clothes area easy, but boring.  He's also one of those people that sees something he wants and just buys it.  For example, he's into computers, but  just picked up a new mini laptop for himself last week.  I struggle with his list every year!

Anyway, tell me what you're buying your husbands, maybe it will help spark some ideas for me :)

Re: DH holiday gifts

  • I have no idea. Since I have a job and "my own" money this year, I feel like I need to buy him something awesome. He usually tells me.

He gave me a bunch of old t-shirts and asked me to make a quilt with them, but I haven't had time to even think about it yet. That's what I *should* be giving him, but I doubt that will happen this year.

  • DH grew a beard this year for the first time. So he'll be getting facial hair care products. And maybe socks.

  • My husband is a mess. He always asks for super expensive things, or stuff I want no part of, like tattoo money. We do not have the means this year to spend big. He would easily buy me something out of budget we agree upon amd just charge it. Um, no thanks. He ks always disappointed when I present him with a modest gift because he grew up being bought by his parents. We do not have that kind of money and I refuse to incur debt for it.
  • I have no clue.
He reads a lot, but in order for me to buy him a book, I would need to ask him which one he wants (he's big into Star Wars books and fantasy) and I want his present to be a surprise.
He's a computer nerd, but I don't really see myself going out to get him a graphics card, you know?
I *could* get him something we need for the house, but I feel like that would be kind of lame, as it wouldn't be a real present.
    In other words, I'm stomped.
I will probably turn to Think Geek and call it a day :)

  • john316lover I can relate.  Except for the tattoo part, lol.

DH's general wish list is for things like a gas powered generator, or a mig welder.  Things so far outside of our budget that I don't even consider them.  But then he blows the budget on spending for me, and I end up feeling bad that I don't reciprocate.  So I struggle to find something he will enjoy, without breaking the bank.

  • @Monsieur_et_Madame_Ha has he read any of the robert jordan books? (Wheel of time series) My DH is reading them.now and loves them. They are the magic/dragons/etc type of fantasy. Also along the same lines is RA Salvatore. He writes several series, but his most popular is the Drittz (sp?) Books. You can find those by looking for the forgotten realms books by Salvatore. I do not know much about the Star Wars tyoe books, but can look up some readers advisoy stuff for you when i am at work if you would like. (I am a librarian)
  • DH loves to fish. So new fishing lures and pole. Some Fox apparel and cargo shorts. Maybe some electronic item. Also camping gear.

Way before we were TTC, my husband suggested the name Nynaeve for a girl - Does that answer your question? :) But you just reminded me we have yet to get the last WoT book. We are cheap and always wait for paperback. I've forgotten to check if it was available yet. Thanks for the reminder!
Dritz is another fave of his :)
I don't want to get in the way of your work, but if you do have some free time, I am definitely open to suggestions! Thank you

  • Cool beans. I will look into it. And what is this work you speak of? I can't seem to remember since i spend all day on TB again, haha.
  • Since we just bought the new house, DH and I set a cheap limit on presents for each other this year. Naturally when I asked him what he wanted, he rattled off about a dozen things that cost more than the limit we had just set. The token thing that he asked for that I would consider breaking the agreement for is a replacement wedding band since his "disappeared" over the summer. Other than that, he will be getting practical things like clothes.

So far all I have in mind is a Camelbak and a beaver or donkey butt headcover for his golf clubs.

They're awesome.  We used to have one but I dropped it on the tile floor and destroyed it.
Now I want one even more. Which model did you have/are you getting?

Not sure yet. I had just a basic one.  This was a few years ago.  They have fancier ones now.  I'll let DH decide.  He loves looking at specs and reviews and crap like that.
Let me know what his verdict is!

  • @Monsieur_et_Madame_Ha has Mr Ha tried the Elminster series by Ed Greenwood? There are several books in it. Also, the Kingslayer Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss.

DH has read the Kingslayer Chronicles, but Elminster sounds new to me. I will look into - Thanks for the help!

No problem. Elminster is really good. Along the lines of Dritz in a Forgotten Realms setting. He is the chosen of Mystra (goddess of magic).
    Edit for typo
Edit #2 damn there's another typo. Stupid fat fingers.
  • Ha! DH wanted to name our cat after it too!
