Recommend a Baby Gate

I need something for the top of the stairs.

Which one do you have? - Do you like it?

TIA!

Re: Recommend a Baby Gate

  • We have the Munchkin Auto Close metal gate .  We live in a 3-story townhome and had to purchase 4 (one for top of 1st stairs from garage, one going up to 3rd floor, one down from 3rd floor, and one in kitchen).   They've worked great for us and we haven't had any problems at all.  They can be a little loud as far as when they shut and lock into place, but it hasn't been any issues with waking the babies or anything significant.

  • We have a Safety 1st walk through gate.  We only bought one and wanted time to try it out before buying another one to put at the top of our stairs.  This gate has been okay.  It's pretty much the same price at the one pp recommended, but I think the pp one looks better.  Our is difficult to close at times and the size that we have it set at keeps changing.  We will not be buying this gate for our upstairs.

  • I have this one, not sure if it's the same as PP mentioned: https://safety1st.djgusa.com/en/djgusa/safety1st/gates/perfect-fit-dual-mode-security-gate--ga049tap It's OK, it does have a feature that if it's hardware mounted you can install it so it only opens one way, as to not open over the stairs, might be useful for you.
  • Thanks! Yes, I definitely want one that mounts to the wall and isn't just a pressure gate. There are just so many different ones out there, I appreciate the suggestions!

  • @kbl13 the one I mentioned can do both, pressure and mount.  We just live in a townhome and they won't let screw anything into the walls or cabinets. It makes baby proofing so hard since there's no way we can baby proof the kitchen. My oldest happened to grab a knife out of the silverware drawer the other day, and there's literally no space in my kitchen to put them anywhere else. Hope you find the right gate for you!

  • We have this one for the top of our stairs- it screws into the wall.

I'm pretty happy with it- it doesn't auto-close...but it works and the price is nice.
