Baby Names

Give me your favourite Irish girls names

We are team green & are pretty set on Liam for a boy but completely stuck for a girl.
I love Saoirse & Aoibheann but for one reason or another they are out.
My next fav is Aibhilin which we would probably spell Aivlinn or Avelyn.
Any other suggestions?

I think if you are living in the US--  those spellings are really hard.

If you are going to go with Liam-- I would maybe consider another easy on the American eyes Irish name.  Some of my faves are

    Shannon

    Moira

    Erin

    Colleen

    Brigid

    Kerry

  • So, so many :)

Aoife, Brenna, Ciara/Kiera, Deirdre, Maeve, Niamh, Mairead, Roisin, Eileen, Bevin, Brigid/Bridget, Caoimhe, Cara, Claire, Colleen, Emer, Iona, Moira, Nessa, Orla, Isolde

If we had a girl tomorrow, she'd probably be Roisin or Mairead

  • I like Devon, Colleen, Erin, and Talulla (we chose the Native American spelling for our daughter because I fell in love with it through actress Tallulah Bankhead, and I figured it's slightly more accessible because other Americans might be familiar with the city in Louisiana and the waterfalls in Georgia, both spelled Tallulah. But it's strangely also a Gaelic name, spelled Talulla, that means "fair lady." Tallulah means "leaping waters.")

  • Maeve and Niamh are pretty, too. And I like Aislin. (Did I spell that right? I never do).

@DrLoretta, I never think I like Irish names that much until you list them. You have all the good ones on your list!

  • I love Aoibheann - it's one of my favorites.  I think Aoife is a good alternative if that's off the table.

My favorite is Grainne, but I also love the mythology behind it.

I also really like Mairead, Nora, and Iseult.

  • Maeve, Meghan (my name), Quinn.

There are alot of pretty Irish names out there but the problem is most people do not know how to say them.  There are some that your child is going to have to constantly correct people who are reading their name.
