Late Term and Child Loss

TMI question re: bleeding (loss mentioned)

I hope this isn't too TMI to ask here, but here goes:

I had the usual lochia after my stillbirth delivery, then it became lighter and clearer until it was mostly clear for about 4 days.  Then it became bright red again and it has been a week of very heavy bright red (no clots though). Has this happened to anyone else?

I called the nurse and she said not to worry unless I soak a pad within an hour or have a fever/pain, but I'm second guessing everything at this point.

Re: TMI question re: bleeding (loss mentioned)

  • I have had on and off bleeding-  For the first 2.5 wks it was like a period that was getting lighter and lighter, then nothing for the past 4ish days, and today bleeding again.  Not really heavy, but I am wearing a pad, and not a liner.  Maybe it's your period returning?

I bled for two weeks initially, had my 4-week follow-up and then had what I considered my first post-baby period the day after my follow-up. I bled heavily for almost 10 days, then it tapered off. My OB wasn't worried about it, but it did freak me out a bit.

I bled forever after my loss. I'd have some days that were light and some that were very heavy. I lost a fair amount of blood during this period as I bled for almost 8 weeks after delivering. It finally tapered off when they put me on high doses of birth control, but I had a few days where I soaked a tampon and a pad in less than an hour.

  • I bled for 7 weeks, it was a horrible daily reminder. It never really went clear, red the whole time.

  • ***LO ticker***DS mentioned*** I bled for about 4 to 5 weeks, had about a week of nothing, and then had my first post-loss period at 6 weeks. It is normal for your period to start as early as 4 weeks post-loss, which may be what you're experiencing. As long as the doctor isn't concerned, I would just keep an eye on things. It was really hard for me that my period came so soon. With DS1, I had no period for months because I was BF, and that period was just other reminder of how wrong all of this is. ((Hugs)))

Oh, I forgot about how BF changes the timing. Ugh :(

I guess I can now use tampons again at least.  I can't stand using pads.
