Anyone here going for a VBAC?

This is my 2nd pregnancy and I decided to go the VBAC route. I'm actually feeling excited and optimistic and have my first appointment with a midwife next month!

Here's hoping this little babe is happy and healthy and growing well. Fingers crossed for everything!

Anyone else preparing and hoping for VBAC?

I am considering it. I don't have a lot of options for OB's on my new insurance, so I'll have to see if this new OB is open to it.

I'm really just torn. Part of me honestly just wants to schedule the cesarean. Less stress. Less worry about uterine rupture, tearing...etc. Then the other part of me wants to give it a shot and have a much better birth "experience" this time around.

  • I'm considering it as well. I'm not 100% sold on the idea, but my doctor is really supportive of it.

  • I hope so! I can't wait to talk to my dr about it.

  • I really loved my c-section, so that's why I'm hesitant to even try this. The only reason I'm considering it is because I have a toddler at home and recovery is easier from what I'm told.

  • I'm glad you asked this because I was thinking of posting a similar thread!

I did a lot of research on VBACs before we started TTC #2 and am definitely going to try my best to have one.  The research I've seen shows a 77-89% success rate for VBACs where the prior cesarean was due to breech presentation, so I feel optimistic.  You never know though.. there is a tiny chance this one could be breech too!

  • I'm defiantly trying for a VBAC. My stubborn child was breech and then transverse but I still manages to dilate to a 7 before making it to the hospital....being the close really makes me want to try again.

  • I'm hoping to have a VBAC this time.

From what I've read I am a good candidate since it'll be just a few months short of 4 years since my c/s by the time I deliver this LO, the reason for my needing a c/s with DD was due to fetal distress from the cord being around her neck 3 times, DD was only 7lb4oz (pretty small for being a week overdue), I have a low transverse scar, and have no medical issues.

  • I'm on the fence about a VBAC. Which is crazy because I was one of those crazy women that refused to do anything that wasn't on my birth plan. What a joke! DS's head got stuck behind my pubic bone and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get him out. The doctor told me I have a tilted uterus so I always wondered if that played a part in why I had such a hard time.

I really, really wanted a vaginal birth last time. Everything went great until the pushing part. I hear the recovery is so much easier than with a C section. I plan to discuss it with my doctor at my first appointment and get her opinion.

  • I am definitely planning a VBAC.  I've been attending my local ICAN meetings for a while now and have a midwife who has a very good VBAC rate.  We will be getting a doula and taking natural birth classes.  Doing everything in my power to have a natural birth this time!

This. I like the "idea" but I also had a planned C-section and no complications.

  • I definitely want to try for a VBAC. My doctor seemed supportive and that she would link me up with an OB that would be supportive if the surgeon were to clear me to attempt a VBAC. I really want to try. We will see though.

    I am considering it.

Last time a labored naturally for 28 hours and a total of 36 and ended up with a c section (I held out as long as I could).  My When my OB came the day after she said DS had a hard time getting low enough to cause enough pressure on my cervix to dilate me and I could try for a VBAC next time.

My csection was not bad at all and I recovered pretty quickly.

So i dont know if i want to do VBAC and/or natural.  I really don't have a plan.

I have considered a midwife and doula this time (since my hubby new insurance will cover it).  My question is what is the plan if u need a c section?  I need to research this in my area.  Also are you going to a birthing center.  I am also going to look up ICAN...

    Thanks

  • I am hoping for one.  I will have to go to a different OB office. It will be a little over an hour away which doesn't bother me. I will continue to do research on it throughout this pregnancy but pretty much since the moment I had my c section I knew I would want to VBAC with the next.
  • I'm thinking about it but am more leaning towards a RCS. My OB told me that I'm crooked which wouldn't allow him to drop which was why I never fully dilated. So I don't think a VBAC is an option for me.

If I need a c-section that's just that. My midwives contract with an OB who agrees to do a c-section if necessary. She also did my d&c since the midwives don't do surgery. If I do have to have a c-section my midwife and doula will stay with me and I'll be attempting skin to skin and breastfeeding in the OR.

  • I'm considering it as well. I've been trying to do some research to prepare for my first appointment next week. I do like the ease of a scheduled c-section. I would like to avoid the downtime associated with the surgery though. I was able to get around it the first time around with a very helpful husband but I'm not sure how I'm going to avoid picking up or playing with my daughter.

I think I'll check out the VBAC board, thanks for the recommendation ladies.

  • I'm definitely trying for one. I wanted a vaginal birth so bad last time. I just need to get DH on board. He thinks it to risky still so I will be helping to educate him the next few months.

  • I'm going to try for a VBAC although I'm terrified of pain & the epidural not working.  I went in to be induced on a Thursday night & had my DD via c-section on Sunday afternoon.  I was only a fingertip dilated the whole time.  After the c-section they said her head was stuck on my pubic bone or something so she wasn't pressing on my cervix at all so that's why I couldn't dilate.  I will have to go to a hospital that is about 20 min or so away for the birth because my local one does not have a NICU.

  • I asked about a vbac while I was still in the hospital with DS.  It has been my goal and part of the timing on when we TFAS.  I had a tough time after DS was born dealing with the fact that I had a c-section and didn't actually "labor" like I had been preparing for.  Rest assured, I got over it, but now that I am pregnant, the fear of the unknown with a vbac is starting to get to me.  I know what to expect now if I do a repeat, but I'd like to try and experience a "normal" childbirth.
  • I really want a VBAC.  It's on my question list for my first appointment.

  • I REALLY want a VBAC!! DS was breeched- and after laboring at home for 20hrs, I was at 8cm before I was finally taken back for surgery. Other than him being breeched, the pregnancy was really great, no complications and I recovered well. I've already spoken with my OBGYN and he's supportive of it, BUT unfortunately we have to go to a different hospital- it's against their policy at the hospital where DS was born, and the other hospital is not really my fave... So I'm nervous about that. But I'm very hopeful!!! Anyone have tips on how to prevent breeched babes???!!!???

Moms who had a c/s for breech babies have a good chance at a VBAC, because the reason for the c/s was due to the baby's position, and that is not likely to reoccur. when you get closer to your due date, there are some things you can try if the baby is breech, but i wouldn't worry about that yet.

I've read that before- so I'm really excited about that. And we did try several of the 'exercises' last time when I was further along (sitting upside down, ice pack to the top of belly, flipping upside down in a pool, etc,) but no luck. Just wondering if I did anything 'wrong' early on that I can try differently this time. Def gonna be more vigilant on my prenatal yoga and walking this time. I was so tired last time, wasn't as active as I'd wished...
