Can't figure out due date. Help!

My husband and I found out on Monday that we are pregnant. We tried to figure out when we would be due but due to my irregular period, we don't know when my last period was. I am not on any type of birth control, either. I had been under a lot of stress the last couple months due to our wedding. Usually when I am very stressed, there is a delay for my period.

Is there any way of knowing how far along we could possibly be? We think we're very early in the pregnancy so we haven't told any family or friends yet.

  • Wait until your first ultrasound.

  • I had an ultrasound to determine a due date. I hadn't had a postpartum period since my daughter's birth in August of last year. It was kind of funny to say that my last period was in November 2011.

Without knowing your last period date or ovulation date, it's hard. If Monday was your BFP, then you're at least 4 weeks but probably more. If you know when in the last couple of weeks you last had unprotected sex, that could help narrow it down, keeping in mind that sperm can stick around for several days so you  may not have conceived on the day you actually had sex.

  • You'll need a dating ultrasound to know for sure. However, the new ClearBlue digital estimates weeks, but only 1-2, 2-3 or 3+ weeks. If you think you ovulated more recently this may help.

  • Thank y'all so much! Will we be able to get an exact due date from the ultrasound? Or only an estimate? Also, do we have to be at a certain point in the pregnancy for them to be able to tell, or if I am very early into it, they'll still be able to tell. First time mom, obviously. Still in surreal-land.

This is a good idea, especially if you have to wait a bit to get in for an ultrasound. Just keep in mind that the weeks indicator measures weeks since conception so your actual gestational age would be that, plus 2 weeks.
