Gentian Violet

Ok... I'm dealing with thrush and my doctor has prescribed another round of diflulcan.  My pediatrician hasn't wanted to treat the baby as he says he doesn't see anything.  My lactation consultant is telling me that without treating the baby I'm probably not really eradicating the problem.  I'm just curious if anyone has an opinion of gentian violet.  I really didn't want to use it, but I need to clear this up!!  I've read some things that make me worry it's not safe.  My LC assures me that if used correctly its safe but I guess I'm just being a worried mom.  Any feedback is appreciated.

  • My friend used it & had great success!

  • We used it twice. It helped a lot but the thrush didn't completely go away until we did diflucan. Our ped said to make sure it's the right dilution (I forget what that is though, sorry!) and not to use more than 7 days. She actually had us start w that, and we moved on to other treatments when that didn't work.

  • I have used it for three out of four of my kids . We used a priscription on my oldest that didn't work well and took two weeks to get rid of the thrush . I love Gentian violet it has always works so well with my kids . We have always done two applications a day , one in the morning and one before bed. After starting it the thrush is always gone within a week . Be careful though it will stain anything it touches and a very little goes a LONG way .
