Counsyl Genetic Testing?

Did anyone have this test done? My doctor suggested it a couple times, but I'm not sure about the advantage? Just to tell me the odds or if we are carriers?

Any input is appreciated!

My RE makes you do it... he even pays for it if you don't have insurance coverage. It is super important especially if you have nay history of any genetic issues in your family. Even if you don't you could be a carrier and not know it. Like pp said it s a small price to pay before spending gobs of money on treatments if that is the route you are going.

Hi - we did this last year when we were first TTC. My husband is very conservative / risk averse and wanted to be sure there wasn't anything we needed to worry about. What we did is have only 1 of us get tested (he got the full Counsyl test) then I only got tested for anything he was listed as a carrier for (only 1 item) and also I got tested for Fragile X.

Of course there is always the chance that something could happen but at least we know our starting point.

As part of the testing, we did have to see a genetic counselor - which turned out to be pretty useful. Just helps to guide the discussions and you learn what each of your risk threshold is and start having those discussions (while it is still theoretical vs emotional later) on the what ifs.
