getting mom and NB acclimated...

My LO is 4 weeks old. She has her days and nights confused (which is another problem altogether) but my issue now is that she HATES to not be held. Obviously I'd love to hold and cuddle her all day if I could, but I still have to get dinner/laundry/cleaning, etc. done. When I place her in her swing, she just screams like her world is crashing down. Same goes for her bassinet and crib. It breaks my heart to hear her cry and I usually end up picking her up after a minute or two.

My question is, how can I get her comfortable with these things so I can get things done around the house and so that she'll sleep at night? I don't want to make her cry it out. She's only 4 weeks. I looked for previous posts on this but couldn't find any. A link would be great if anyone knows of one.

    Do you have a baby carrier that you could out her in? That way you can do things around the house, but she is still close to you like she is wanting to be.

    Definitely get a carrier. There are plenty of options. We use a Moby, which both LO and I love.

    Honestly, my LO was like that and hated the carrier.  He eventually grew out of it a little bit.  Now he can entertain himself in his little rocker chair and on his playmat.  He still hates the swing and bouncer - and never took to the carrier - but they get there.  Just be patient.  He loves his mommy and wants to feel safe!

    I have same prob right now. Lo just turned 1mnth. I ccan't wait to pick up my k'tan carrier in the mail tomorrow!!!! Hope it gets better for you with a carrier maybe!!!

    Here's another vote for trying a carrier. If you can, borrow from friends first to see what type LO likes... some babies have strong opinions about carriers. ;-)

    My LO developed a similar habit at around 5.5wks and since he has hated the carrier every time we've tried it, our saving grace has been the Boppy.  Basically once our DS falls asleep in my arms, I'll sometimes place him in the Boppy pillow - it's basically a donut hole that holds him in place so he feels like he's still being held.  (I only do this for short naps during the daytime, never at night).  It feels dishonest but it gives my arms a break during the day so I can get some things done.  I now refer to it as his "pillow mother!"  :P

    Look into the Forth Trimester. You are all your LO has ever known; of course she isn't going to be happy by herself. I agree with the recommendations to find a carrier, that way you can do your thing while meeting your LO's needs.

    Sorry about the days/nights thing. Sucky. :( I also recommend a carrier. My baby is four weeks old as well ad some days, the only thing that works is throwing him in our Tula and doing chores that way. It's like a magical sleep potion, because no matter what I'm doing, he'll fall asleep when he's in it. :)
