My favorite wasn't Starbucks but was when I was ordering food on the phone. They asked I said Krista they thought I said Bertha how the hell they got that I will never know. But I am used to misspelling of my name since there is multiple was to spell it but seriously Bertha.
I get a lot of variations upon my name, which is Kristin. Mis-spellings aside (as there are plenty of those) I get Kirstin, Christian, Kristy, Christina, and some are just lazy and go with Kris, which unless your family you will be ignored. I've gotten to the point where I'll just spell my name when they ask for it instead having people trying to make up variations upon my name.
UGH this quote function is annoying me today. Do you watch HIMYM? There was an ep last season where this maitre'd walks up to this girl and calls her "Kristin" and she says "The R is after the I" and he says "Oh Kirsten" and she says "No the R is after and before. It's Krirstin." I don't know why but that is so funny to me!
This is so weird - we never asked names when I worked for starbucks, and haven't ever been asked my name since. Maybe it's regional?
Hello Dec13, this is Jan14's Starbucks ambassador.
The asking for names on cups was implemented last fall as a way to make sure people don't take others drinks. It has become more of a focus recently as Starbucks is moving to a new deployment method. Yada Yada Yada. It's pretty much because we're annoyed with people who can't realize the difference between a skinny caramel macchiato and a vanilla latte when they're called out and take the wrong cup. Yeah, I said it, people be dumb.
@superspecialsnowflake - yes, it's supposed to be a nationwide thing. Most baristas are just too lazy to ask for your name. I know that at the store I work at, we do it during rush hours religiously, and then when it's slower we slack off because it just seems silly then.

Implemented...nationwide? Because I've been to more Starbucks than I care to admit over the past year and have never been asked my name.
And yes, I once had a person order an iced latte and a raspberry iced latte.... and couldn't figure out which was whic
Ugh, can't get out of the quote tree, but @superspecialsnowflake aren't you in Chicago? I am asked for my name all the time, except the regular place I go to. But I visit many also and am always asked. Crazy!
My name is Malida, which I know isn't exactly common..but for some reason, people LOVE calling me Malinda or even worse, Matilda. After I spell it out for them, they still call me other names.
