Over feeding/growth spurt

For the past week or so my now 7 week old has been waking every 2-3 hours and drinking 4 ounces of formula (or breast milk - we combo feed but he mainly gets formula) each time. Most of the time it's the 2 hour time frame. We never 'force' him to finish the bottle, he typically sucks it dry. We always try consoling in other ways first but it always comes back to hunger. I know in part this is a growth spurt but I feel like it's just so much food suddenly! Anyone else in the same boat?

Re: Over feeding/growth spurt

  • if he seems hungry, offer the bottle. Maybe try putting 4.5-5 oz in and see if he seems more satisfied? My lo went through a phase where she was drinking 6oz for a week or so, and now she is back to 4.....it can change.

  • Have you tried increasing the ounces per bottle?  I find that when it's time to increase he wants to eat more often so I make a second regular sized bottle and once he "gets going" he finishes the entire thing, even if I'm not sure he really NEEDS the entire thing.  I don't think you're doing anything wrong but you could try bumping to 5 ounces to see if he's able to go a little longer between feedings.
