Late Term and Child Loss

Including your angel *ticker warning*

What kind of things do you include your angel in?  For example, I wouldn't feel comfortable signing her name amongst ours in christmas cards or something, but I was thinking about stockings today.  We currently have crappy dollar store stockings, and I said when we had a baby, we'd get nice stockings with everybody's name embroidered on theirs.  I was so excited to get Kayla her stocking this year....is it weird to still get one with her name?  It makes me sad to think of future christmases where we have more children with their stockings, and not have one for her but I just don't know if it's weird/unhealthy (???) to have one for her?  I don't even know if that makes sense...

We have a stocking for Corbin. Some people I know have stickers or symbols they put in cards to represent their angels without it seeming odd. I honestly don't care what anyone else thinks about anything we do as long as it helps DH and I cope.

In memory of Corbin Scott 10/28/11-12/3/11. Heaven got another angel the night you left this world behind Heaven got a little better the day it took you away from me Missing you tonight, see you again sometime For now I'll close my eyes and dream of heaven tonight I'll love you forever I'll like you for always Now and Forever My baby you'll be

  • ***LO ticker*** I'm glad you asked this- I've been thinking about the stocking thing, or whether I even want to deal with Christmas cards this year. Honestly, I think whatever you feel is right, just go for it, who cares what others think? You should include and remember her in whatever way you want.

We have an ornament that we put out for Elsie. We dont have stockings, but I would probably do one for Elsie if we did. I sign her name on certain cards to certain family members, but leave it off on others.

  • I have one for Sydney we put a butterfly on it for her. My mom has santa hats for the whole family all my siblings and their kids and Sydney has her own hat there too. Your baby is a part of your family I don't think it is weird at all. I had an ornament made last year with DH and all of our kids name on it. She is and will always have a stocking. For us it is okay but others might not think it is. I also do sign her name depending on the person who i am giving the card to. I just put a little halo over her name.

We have a stocking for Brooke and I am still going to buy her a christmas present that we will donate to a charity. We try to incorpate her in almost everything we do. • I love the idea of buying a gift and donating it. I think I will do the same. We were thinking of ornaments and forgoing cards altogether. I've never been good with the Christmas card thing, even when I buy them they never get sent. I don't think the stocking idea is weird at all. I have been thinking of ways to incorporate our babies into things we plan on doing. It is only natural to want to include them in any we we feel appropriate for our families.

  • As other PPs have said, I think the most important thing to do is what feels right for you and DH.  I saw on Facebook, the suggestion to use a symbol to represent your lost LO in your family signature.  I LOVE this idea.  I plan to use a heart for years to come.  I also plan to get Izzie a stocking, its what feels right to us.  I am actually copying an idea I saw on Facebook.  I am asking my friends a family to all do a random act of kindness in Izzie's memory and then briefly right about it.  I will stuff her stocking with all the notes we receive and we will read them on Christmas morning.  I am hoping this is a tradition we can continue through the years and hopefully with future children.

This year we are getting stocking for everyone including Elizabeth. Our Christmas cards will have all of our names. At first I was worried what people would think, but after thinking it over. It's not what others think but what helps me heal, what makes me keep my heart at peace. Our tree topper is an angel wing with Christmas berries around it & we have butterflies as our garland going up our tree. I say whatever brings your heart peace, serenity & most importantly minds you of your sweet angel you should do it.

  • Having a stocking isn't weird at all.  When my son was born, I started making him a counted cross-stitch christmas stocking and I worked on it while I pumped.  It helped me think of him and gave me something to do.  I knew I'd make a stocking for Eleanor when she was born.  When she died, one of the first things I did was buy a cross stitch pattern for her stocking, and I worked on it incessantly while I was on leave.  It's not finished yet, and I haven't worked on it regularly in some time, but it's still very therapeutic for me to work on and feel like I'm doing something special for her.  I'm thinking I'll have my son (and future children) draw her a picture or write a letter every year that will go into her stocking and then her memory box.
