Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Early bedtime

My girls are 11 weeks and we started putting them to bed super early they get bath and bottle and are down by 630. They get up between 630-7 and have usually one feeding in between about 2-3 am. Is this too early? I'm guessing if we put them down later they might sleep straight through but we noticed they got so fussy any later than 7 and it was harder to get them asleep. What time do you put your baby to bed? Do they sleep through the night yet?

Re: Early bedtime

  • 730 pm and he sleeps till 4 am.  that may seem early but i need him up at that time to feed him before we leave.

  • What works for you works for a reason and I would stick with it. My LO doesn't go to bed until ~11pm. But that is what works for us. As he gets older I will start putting him to bed early but at 2 months I think whatever works for you is good.
  • Def do what works for you! We start our bedtime routine around 6:15-6:30 and the girls are in bed by 7.
  • Do what works for you. Your babies are clearly getting overtired if you try keeping them up so I'd just stick with keeping them happy. I wish mine went to sleep early at night! He won't stay down until after 11 and lately he has been pushing it to midnight.

  • Sounds like a lot of you do an early bedtime, I do wish it was more of a 7-7 schedule for when I go back to work though. I may try to bump it 15 minutes tonight and see if it's ok with them.

Ugh I feel for you , I'm passed out by 10pm! Hope he sleeps late for you.

How old is she and how much/often does she eat during the day?

  • @Wishing35 He does, most of the time. He usually doesn't wake up until about 8-9am, sometimes later and sometimes a little earlier.

She is 12 weeks now, but we have been doing the 6:30-7:00 bedtime since she was about 6 weeks. She eats 4oz-6oz every 3 hours or so during the day....sometimes 2 hours, but usually 3....she will rarely go 4 hours (unless she's napping). I would say she has 5-6 bottles. We always offer a bottle right before bed even if she ate only an hour or so earlier. She stops when she is full, and it tops her off before sleep.

She also naps 4 or so times a day ranging from 15 mins-1 hour long.

I did not put her on this routine...I followed her lead, and this is where it got us!

  • He's in bed most nights around 8:00. We get a stretch anywhere from 6-8 hours out of him so we still get up with him at least once a night.  He'll be 11 weeks on Saturday.

  • My DD is asleep by 7:45. We dreamfeed her around 10:30, and for the last few days she's been sleeping til 6 or 7. She will be 10 weeks on Friday.
  • My LO goes to bed at 7:30, and tends to sleep until about 6:15 am, except for a couple nights where she woke, she tends to STTN. She will be 11 weeks on Friday.

  • Putting them later will not make them STTN. It's more likely to screw with their sleep schedule.

  • I have heard people say that an early bedtime is really good for little babies since they can get overly tired if gets too late.  Then they are fussy and can't get to sleep.  Do whatever is working.  My LO goes to bed when I go to bed.  I'm a teacher and a coach.  I have to be at work at 7 and usually don't get home until 6 pm if we don't have a game.  If I put him to bed early, then I would never get to spend time with him!  So whatever works for you is what's best!

  • I put her to bed no later than 9 but she gets up at 1 then 4 and now that we set the clocks ahead an hour she also gets up at 7. She sometimes starts to fall asleep at 8 which is fine.
  • My DS has gone to bed at 7 since he was about 2 months. Later bedtime does NOT = later wake time.

  • I do 9 pm but I dont go to sleep until 1am (I feed him right before I go to sleep then pump anything left for a bottle) and DH goes to bed at 3/4am (DH feeds him the pumped bottle at this time) and he wakes up again around 7am for a quick 10 minute nursing session.  DS wakes up for the day at 9am and thats what works with our work schedules.  Any earlier and I would be losing on sleep.

DS is 1 month old for anyone mobile

  • I would never see Alexis if she went down at 6:30. She goes down around 8:30 and sleeps until 4:30. She takes a nap or two between 6-8:30.
