Please Rec Prefolds!

A girlfriend of mine who tried Cding and didn't work out gave me a dozen old cotton prefolds to test out to see if I will like covers + prefolds. Which I do! Though now I really do need more than a dozen for a month old10lb baby.

Any recommendations really helps.

Oh yeah I have another friend that has a few of the GMD red edge prefolds. Can I use them on a 10lb baby when the sizing on the site says to start at 15lbs?

Re: Please Rec Prefolds!

  • I don't have any of the red edge yet, but my LO is creeping up on 14 lbs, but is no where near outgrowing the yellow edge

  • GMD reds will be pretty big on a 10-lb baby, but I definitely used them before 15 lbs. DD outgrew her infant (non-GMD 7-15 lb prefolds) at 12 or 13 lbs and all I had to use in their place were the reds. They were long, so I folded them down in the back before snappi-ing. I used them from about 9 weeks and still occasionally tri-fold them at 21 months.

  • Depends on the shape of your baby. It probably wouldn't hurt to have the red edge handy, you'll get to that size eventually.

I think we moved from yellow to red edge around 12 lbs., and I have a guy with a long body and skinny legs. We folded the back down and inch or two and then Snappi'd.
  • Definitely depends on the baby!  We used newborn size until 9 weeks (probably about 10-11lbs), and then small size (yellow) until 9.5 months (just shy of 20lbs).  She's tall and lean.

You can always use a bigger size prefold, but just realize you may have trouble fitting all that fluff under a good-fitting diaper cover!  Might just take some adjustment.
  • Our favorite prefolds are Dandelion Diapers Bamboo ones. They are super soft, reasonably priced, very trim for a PF, and super absorbent.  (Am I allowed to say where I buy them?) GMD PF are a distant second favorite.
