August 2012 Moms

Christmas? :)

I know I don't post often, so most of you are probably wondering "who is this chick" when I do haha.

I'm in the Christmas mode, what are you all planning for gifts for your littles?

We're definitely getting Caroline an American Girl bitty baby because she obsessed with "baby" right now!

Hope you're all well:)

Re: Christmas? :)

  • I started making Micah's Christmas Wish list on Amazon today, so I'm also in Christmas mode.  I want to get him a train set (he loves the train at Wegmans), a remote control car and ride on car

  • I made a wish list for fun but I'm sure no one but us will buy anything on it :P

    Trains and cars are fun!

  • I'm thinking I'll get her a chair, some blocks and more puzzles. Right now she's more interested in climbing than toys.

  • I want blocks and maybe a wagon. He's always getting into other kids' wagons at the park. And little people stuff.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • We are getting both girls anywhere chairs from Pottery Barn Kids. DD1 will also get an outfit for her American Girl Doll and a generic wardrobe for her doll clothes. Some other small toys as well.
DD2 is getting the playskool gear toy. Not sure what else yet.

  • @bpaws, I can never find socks either! I suppose it's wrong to staple them onto him?

@Baker_Bride Tights are one thing- stapling socks are another ;-) I made the mistake early on of buying cute little socks with designs all over them. Which are great.... But then there is only 1 pair of each sock. I got smarter thinking I'd buy a ton of solid coloured socks and would have an easier time! NO! NO!!! I STILL can't find any!!! It drives me nuts! Some days I say eff it and he wears mismatched socks.
I have this Uncle, "Uncle John," who is out to lunch. He's just nuts. I would feel bad but he was a total dick when he was with it. Well, I still feel bad but not as bad. I think he either did too many drugs or he was just born that way and gotten worse because he's just always been a little out of touch. Anyway, one year at Thanksgiving dinner, my BIL was talking about his injury in Iraq and subsequent multiple plastic surgeries that followed when Uncle John bursts out, "WELL I JUST CAN'T FIND ANY BLACK SOCKS OR WHITE HANDKERCHIEFS! I LOOK AND I LOOK AND CAN'T FIND MY BLACK SOCKS AND WHITE HANDKERCHIEFS!" Poor Uncle John. We got him black socks and white hankies that year. I wonder if he kept track of them?

Anyway, we call Howell Uncle John because I bought him ten pairs of black socks and now we can't find any of them. Poor Howell, maybe that's how the craziness starts.

  • Caroline has a wagon, but I was thinking maybe something for outside! Although, would that be super lame that she won't be able to use it for months??

  • I think we're going to do want/need/wear/read.

H wants to get Em one of those fun baby slides for his "want".  Haven't thought too much about the need, wear, read yet.

I was thinking about one of those--they're surprisingly reasonably priced too!

Not outside related, but I was thinking about getting her the big hugs Elmo because she saw the commercial once and lost it laughing :P She has so many stuffed animals though!

  • We're getting her a play kitchen, Little People farm, maybe an Anywhere chair, and assorted stocking stuffer type things. I think we spent maybe 200 last year?
  • We are going the want/need/wear/read route, I think.

Want = Possibly a Stuffie, these big stuffed animals with pockets.  She plays with them at the kid's store downtown.
Need = Maybe a new cloth diaper, although that's really a want for me.  ;o)
Wear = New pajamas (I am making holiday pajamas for the whole family)
Read = Board book of some kind

My parents are thinking of getting her the Violet dog that reads books and my mom already bought her some clothes.  FIL always gets her something educational from Discovery toys.  SIL and BIL will probably get her clothes and books.

In my opinion, she has too many things already.
  • We celebrate Hanukkah, which begins the day before Thanksgiving this year. Lila already has far, far too much stuff but we are planning to buy her a baby Corolle doll. That's all we are buying her since family is very indulgent.

@SJandVA. Lila received that music set for her birthday and loves it.

  • @baker_bride Hanukkah won't be this early again for another 600 years. The holiday should be called thanksgivinukkah. I'm glad Lila is too young to be aware that she is such a tiny minority because the timing of the holiday will make it difficult for Jewish children loving in the mainstream.

  • I would really like to get Albert a little sled so that we can go hiking in the snow.  When we go skiing, I'd like to have it, too, because we'll be taking turns watching him and it will give us something to do with him outside.  If we go this route, we'll need to get him snow boots, waterproof bibs and a jacket so he won't get wet while playing.

I also want to redo my old rocking horse that I had as a toddler for him.  I'd have to give it new yarn hair and find a dowel for the handle.  Sam wants to redo his old wagon, too.  We'll see if we can get these projects done before Christmas.

We are doing want/need/wear/read, too. Have no idea for any of them for DS yet, though.

And we spent about $90 on each child last year and plan to do about the same this year. Maybe it will even be a little less with WNWR (which we didn't do last year).

I'm thinking I'll get her a chair, some blocks and more puzzles. Right now she's more interested in climbing than toys.
My LO is all about climbing too half the days few toys are even pulled out. We're done shopping for her (I'm super early shopper). We got her big gift of play kitchen with food/plates. Then some blocks, potty chair, books, table/chairs and stocking stuffers: books, bath fizz tabs, outfit, toddler portioned plate.
Grandparents got her duplos, chair, bedding for soon big kid bed, pull wagon w/ abc blocks

As for money I worry less about that (though we spent about $100 this year), a lot of what I get her is things she needs anyway-like the clothes, potty, toddler portion sized plate, big kid bedding. Or things that'll grow with her-chair, books, blocks,table/chairs. I just focus on avoiding toys that get outgrown lots. I played with Duplos & Blocks til I was like 10 so to me that's a "good" toy. Plus we build/make a lot of the gifts like wood blocks & table/chairs.

  • @annieluvsjordan that rollercoaster thing is FREAKING AWESOME! My sister actually has it in her living room. Lol. All of the kids love it.
  • @annieluvsjordan my parents and I bought that roller coaster for my niece 2 christmas's ago when she was almost 2. She still loves it now at almost 4. So even though it is a bit expensive I think it is worth it since it isn't something LO's will out grow in 6 months like some other things.

  • DH is converting an old entertainment center into a play kitchen.  I found them on pinterest and my mother had the perfect old entertainment center that she was trying to get rid of.  It will be for all 3 kids.  I will load it up with accessories and I have been saving containers and jars as we finish them to fill the refrigerator with.  I am super excited about it.  I also had handmade knit stockings made from a woman on etsy.  I had them done last year, but she didn't get them to me until after the holidays so I saved them.  They match the one I have from my childhood.
  • I love Christmas!! I haven't started their wish lists yet but probably will soon. Maybe some little people things for O and definitely some clothes. Some craft stuff, Barbie movie, and clothes for C. I'm asking family for "experience" gifts for them like passes to the botanical gardens, museums, whale watching, Disney on Ice, etc...

  • I think we're going with a sled.
  • For those of you looking at anywhere chairs, I just bought a small chair from Target for Christmas and it is great! It is pink with white polka dots with darker pink piping - adorable. It is filled like a beanbag but shaped like a chair. It is $35, but I got it for $25 because it was a returned item. Much more affordable than the PB one.

Appleseed wears mismatched socks ALL the time. DH is terrible for putting dirty socks in the sock bin so that I can keep them separate and wash them in a delicates bag to keep them together.  It worked for a long time but the DH fell off the sock wagon and now they are all missing.

I'm late to the party, but here's what I have for DS (I just realized his Christmas shopping is pretty much done! I picked all this stuff up on sale in the last few months): Little People Zoo Train, Little People Farm, play-tools (actually is a 3+ toy set, so some of the smaller stuff we'll have to put away for a while).

Now I'm starting on stocking stuffers. I got him a holiday cup, a holiday bath pouf, and a cute snack container. Also planning on a toothbrush, a few pieces of candy, and apple, & orange. (I know apple & orange sound weird, but growing up it was tradition we always got an apple and orange in our stockings.)
