Anyone giving LO egg yolk yet? If so, what ways do you serve it?

Yesterday we started egg yolks. I boiled an egg, mashed the yolk, and mixed in breast milk.  He HATED it.  Not sure if he hated the smell or texture.  Just wondered what other ways there are to serve it.

  • We do BLW and have done scrambled eggs, she didn't really care for them the first time, but just last weekend we tried again and she ate them up!

  • We do BLW too, and last weekend we had French toast and scrambled eggs, so DS had a bit. We used no syrup for DS, but he did enjoy both it seemed like. But the kid eats everything we give him.
  • I would not recommend scrambled egg. Not all babies can digest the egg white until 12-18 months of age. I saw so many moms on here feeding scrambled egg to their LO that decided to try it. She threw up for 30 minutes after wards and she and I were both miserable all day.

Having said that, she loves egg yolk and either I feed it to her on my finger from my own fried egg that I am eating or I let her help me spoon feed it to her from a properly soft boiled egg. I've never tried to feed it to her as a solid yolk.

  • Okay I'm ashamed to just now ask what is BLW?
My LO will eat anything if it has avocado in it!

  • BLW - Baby Led Weaning...it is basically skipping the puree and have the baby self feed.  That is a very very short definition.  There is lots of research on it and a lot of parents are doing it.
  • We're not doing yolks until 8 mo but I plan on hard boiling and then removing the yolk and giving it to him in small pieces. You can also mash it and use it in purees to thicken the puree a bit. Wholesomebabyfood.com has some good suggestions.

Interesting, I have never heard that.  DD has had scrambled eggs three or so times now, and loves them.  We've never had a problem with throwing up or anything.

  • DD has scrambled eggs every Sunday with us for breakfast, she's has them at least 5 times without an issue. We are also BLW-ers.

I read it in beautiful babies and also googled it.

  • I gave it to him once and he loved it...I boiled the eggs and removed the yolk. He really enjoyed the texture too. I will be giving him again soon.
