Ugh... today it is bad. Emma woke up sick after her party and has been clung to me with a fever since Saturday night. I never got to clean up after the party. Thankfully my mom did dishes before she left Saturday otherwise they would still be in the sink!
Our house is relatively clean. I credit my husband, though...he cleans compulsively to relax (weirdo). That, and laundry (the chore I most often get behind on) gets piled up downstairs and out of sight.
Yeah space is an issue. We had family fly in for the birthday party this weekend. 5 adults and 1 baby sleeping in a 2 bedroom house. And now all the new toys from the party. Madonn'.
I'd say cleaner than most - only because I have a maid service come every 2 weeks. She cleans everything top to bottom and in between cleanings I only have to keep things picked up, do some minimal sweeping/mopping/dusting/cleaning where we make messes, etc. I'm super spoiled and I know it. I cringe of the day if/when we'd have to stop doing so due to finances or some other reason.
I clean the kitchen every day, meaning I put dishes in the dishwasher and wipe the counters down. I'll pick up the living room every day or so because that's where most of Ev's toys are. My bedroom and office almost never get cleaned. I try to vacuum every week, and sweep. Mopping is a rarity.
Honestly though, my house is a mess always, unless I have people coming over. Then I make an effort. I shudder to think of how it will look if I ever go back to work.
Dude, the Swiffer wet jet changed my life...in the sense that my kitchen floor gets cleaned more often.
the other day i went to my sisters and her girls did not have a clean spot on their bedroom floor. they also had moved the matress and made a "big slide!!" the place was a disaster. made me feel good about my own house haha.
This is me at my SIL's house. Hand soap is impossible to find anywhere in that house, and there is fecal matter routinely smeared on the toilet seats. And her kids are 10 and 12. So...nasty...
I clean once a week on Saturday's after Wesley goes to bed, laundry gets done on Sunday but never makes it into the closets, we just pull clean clothes out of the hamper. I do clean the kitchen every night and pick up after Wesley every night after he goes to bed but that's it. The house looks really good on Sunday morning and then by lunch time Wesley has destroyed all my hard work. I'm hoping when he is older then I will have a clean house again, but I'm not to worried.
The entire house is never clean. There's always laundry down in the laundry room and my 8 yr old sons room is usually a mess. He is autistic and he sorts his toys by color and what kind of toy they are..I can't get upset though, he's such a doll. My kitchen gets wiped down every day, I have to sweep every night because it drives me fucking apeshit stepping on crumbs and whatever else got dropped. I have the Vileda spray mop, kind of like the swiffer..it's great. I mop every other night. Bathroom gets done maybe once a week an I usually do a quick wipe down with a few baby wipes in between lol I love those things!!
We just try to keep the kitchen clean and the floors decent. So not a complete disaster but not "guest ready ". Usually if family is coming over I can tidy up within 30 mins or so and anyone I consider "guest" maybe an hour. Before big parties or Holidays I usually do a deep clean and spend 8 hours or so. Which more often than not entails some home improvement project that "must" be completed.
Pretty clean? If you look past the dog hair and the toys all over the living room. I vacuum 2x week and clean both bathrooms every weekend. Dishes done nightly. Toys put away nightly. I hate stuff being piled up. I try to mop every few weeks. I have definitely lowered my standards of clean since having LO. And upped my tolerance of dog hair.
We have two 50 lb dogs and the dog hair is out of control, collecting in clumps along the baseboards. It is worse when they are actively blowing their coats but all year its a problem. I would guess we would have to vacuum every couple of days to keep the house looking like no dog lives there, but we are doing well if it gets done every two weeks. Bathrooms get cleaned every two weeks but I would like it if they got cleaned every week. We stay on top of the kitchen on a daily basis because you can't function in there if we don't. Mopping is rare...like really rare...like I don't even remember the last time I did it rare. We don't have any carpeting in our house beyond a few area rugs so mopping is a huge undertaking and by the time we get the bathrooms done, all the floors vacuumed, and the laundry washed and folded (if we're lucky) we don't want to spend anymore time cleaning. I find it depressing how much of our weekend is taken up by cleaning and our house isn't even as clean as I would like it to be. Things like washing windows???? Unheard of here.
Ummm... clean enough but not as clean as I'd like.
It's clean enough that if someone wants to stop by in 30 minutes, the house is presentable. I handwash dishes 2-3x a day, so there's never any dirty dishes sitting around (I can't stand having dirty dishes in the sink... how do you cook?) DH sweeps the floors every morning, and we put away the toys when DS naps and sleeps.
DH vacuums every couple of weeks. He also cleans the toilets. I clean bathtubs and sinks every 2 weeks.
I SAH and I do laundry approx 5x/week. We CD so there's diaper laundry 2x a week. Plus 1 load for DS, 1 load for me, 1 load for DH, and that's not counting towels and sheets. I feel like I'm doing laundry all the time.
The main thing that needs doing more often is dusting. I dunno where all this dust comes from, but there it is! So if someone is coming over in 30mins, that's what I usually end up doing - dusting!

Cleaner than it would be if DH wasn't around. He's a clean freak but I find myself doing all the work. I sweep almost everyday. Mop about three times a week (he gets on his hands and knees and scrubs the floor every weekend). I'm always picking up toys. Never dishes in the sink, but that's all me. I hate dishes in the sink. Bathrooms are cleaned at least every weekend. I put away toys at each nap and after bedtime.
Today's my day off. I did about 6 loads of laundry and then reorganized 7 kitchen cabinets because I couldn't deal with the clutter. And I went to ikea. Oh ikea
I love the swiffer wet jet. It makes my floor *look* clean when I use it, and it is easy enough to use that I actually do use it sometimes, unlike a normal mop.
Actually, I use the swiffer vacuum at least once a week and the 360 thing to dust up high...I am like a freaking commercial for them. Except my house isn't actually clean enough to put in a commercial.
I don't own a mop. . only a wet jet. Is this a problem? Oops! I refilled the canister with water and ammonia though instead of whatever was in there. But ya that thing is super convenient I use it 1-3x a week depending on how much food Emma throws on the floor.
Augh, it bothers me how rare I clean now. I have a tough enough time just staying on top of laundry and keeping the kitchen floor free from LO food dropping/throwing. Oh, and we just moved into this house 4 months ago and there are still places I have not cleaned yet... I know, gross!
Clean every weekend the downstairs, dust, sweep, mop, stove etc. bathroom floor cleaned every week but toilet and sink as needed. Babies room dusted every other week, vacuumed every week. My room and bathroom, usually a mess. I hate cleaning my tub and now with baby it has to look dirty before I clean it. Thank god she's still in baby tub so I don't have to clean my guest room tub!
Right now? It's a total disaster! I'm planning to get up early to "take the edge off" before the nanny (who also cleans) gets here. She is sweet and doesn't make comments to my face, but surely she goes back to her friends and talks bad about me! It's sad when you have to clean before the cleaning lady gets here, ya know? Haha! But by Friday, the house will look beautiful and clean again. She's a miracle worker! H asks me why she can "do it all" and why I can't. (bastard). My response... She's getting paid to do it, and I'm freaking wore out after I get home from work (with a 1.75 hour one-way fking commute), so shut the f up. Whoa, that turned into a rant.
I feel like I'm constantly at least trying to clean. Like PPs said, if someone is coming over then I'll get on it and get it clean, but within an hour or so of company coming over, the house is a mess again. LO puts his toys everywhere, DS1 drops his backpack and shoes and socks in the front hallway and there's always food on the floor. I sweep twice a day, but my kitchen floors are always a mess. I at least do my best to keep the living room and kitchen somewhat tidy since those are the rooms you see the most. As for the bathrooms and bedrooms?? Those are on occasion. We have a FROG and that never gets cleaned or vacuumed.
We have a clean house, but there is stuff all over. I can't get a handle on DS's toys, we have a small house so a corner of the extended living room belongs to DS. Toys don't stay in that corner
I do laundry on Sunday, straighten up the kitchen junk areas on Saturday morning, and the living room nightly, and we sweep nightly in the kitchen (DD2 has forced that upon us!). Everything else isn't really on a schedule. I'm really bad about bathrooms and vacuuming. the toy room is always a tornado zone- we have two small kids, the second we clean it it's messy again.
I did clean the tub last night in the girls bathroom but that was because DD2 pooped in the tub. Honestly our house is lived in. We're comfortable and if we're having guests we'll do a full overhaul, but I'd rather spend the time with my family.
I just have to say this thread makes me feel like I'm not alone and for that I am eternally grateful. I struggle with the state my house is in on a daily basis. But some days I'd rather just sit on the floor and play with my son then pick up a mop or a bottle of windex.

as long as there's no poo stains, drop the cleaners and play with that baby!

We have a small house, so it's pretty easy to keep maintained. I hate clutter, so toys and such get picked up each night. My house looks pretty put together, but really isn't clean. I'm a real shitty deep cleaner and just try to keep things looking ok. I do one task a day (vacuum, clean bathroom, ect) to try to keep up with it. I should probably vacuum everyday because of the pet hair, but I'm too lazy.
This is pretty much us.
We have a 4 bedroom house but it's all one floor, so I've found it's a lot easier to keep clean than multi-story homes we've lived in the past. But for that reason, I'm prone to fix it up more because I'm constantly exposed to it and it drives me batty looking at it. But yeah, my house is more "neat" than clean... Instead of heavy cleaning, I use a lot of lysol wipes lol.
Re: How clean is your house?
Our house gets cleaned every Sunday night. It's a sty by Friday. It'd be worse if LO wasn't at daycare.
Mops suck.
Also, I don't work for Swiffer, I promise.

(My opinions do not necessarily reflect those of my employer etc.)
Pretty clean, but I chalk that up to:
1. cleaning lady every other week once a week
2. nanny who cleans up after L during the week
3. trying to do dishes/general clean up in the morning because I don't want my nanny to spend all day in a sty/do our personal dishes
4. trying to wittle down stuff due to space constraints
Actually, "clean" is probably the wrong word. Our apartment is "neat."
