Babies: 3 - 6 Months

not blowing raspberries 5 months...

hi ladies,

i'm a little concerned because my 5 month old hasn't done a razz sound yet. i know every baby is different but I've been reading too much. :( Anyone else in the same boat?

Re: not blowing raspberries 5 months...

  • LO just turned 5 months this past weekend and has not blown any raspberries that I know about.  I didn't even know this was a thing to worry about!

I'd definitely step away from the google.

  • This is something babies typically do AROUND 5 months.  No milestone should be taken so literally that within the month you're concerned.  Milestones are averages and some things some babies will never do.  Generally you would be concerned about a combination of things they are lacking that may hint at an specific delay.  This isn't something to worry about right now :)

  • Yeah, I didn't even know this was a thing until coming on here.

If you want to know what milestones to look for, use the CDC list: https://www.cdc.gov/NCBDDD/ACTEARLY/milestones/

They have a list of things to look for and bring up with your doctor if your baby can't/doesn't do at each stage.

The biggest thing to remember is that all this stuff occurs on a bell curve. Most kids will do something around a certain age. Some will do it early, some will do it late. It doesn't mean your baby is a genius or that they're "behind".
