Beef ideas for LO

Our hematologist wants us to change LOs diet and offer red meat more often.  I am not a huge meat eater so I don't have very many beef ideas for LO.  Right now I only offer meat loaf or beef ravioli.  I need some new ideas/recipes with beef. How is your LO eating beef?

Re: Beef ideas for LO

  • Stir fry, breakfast sausage, crock pot roast... or is that pork? @stokedwifey had a lot of beef dishes in her crock pot meals that I use on the reg now.

  • Meatballs? Chili? I made stuffed peppers and those went over well, here is the recipe: https://dashingdish.com/recipe/italian-style-stuffed-red-peppers/

You could do a breakfast casserole but those use sausage not beef...not sure if that will fulfill your needs or not.

  • Now I want Shepards Pie....

  • I've also made this a few times and it goes over well. Just leave out the chilies.

  • LO loves when I make beef stew. The meat gets super tender and he drinks the broth out of the bowl.

Thanks ladies! There are a lot of good recipes so hopefully LO will like a few of them.

@mommymaddness Shepard's pie is a great idea.  She loves corn and pie crust so hopefully she won't notice the meat.
@hijinx and @chipmunk112511 I wish she liked pasta sauce!  I have the odd kid who loves pasta but hates the sauce.
@britbratif The tex-mex casserole looks really good!

@OkieMama Does LO make a mess when he drinks the broth or did he get better with practice?  Does he pick out stuff in the soup and eat it or do you feed it to him? I have never considered a soup because I thought it would be to difficult for her.

Well he has definitely gotten better, but he also realizes that mommy is even better at it so he usually lets me help. I normally put some pieces on his tray (I make my stew with meat, potatoes, corn, and carrots) and usually some cornbread. Then in between bites I spoon feed him some broth. Sometimes he gets too big for his britches and has to try to do it himself, so I use a suction bowl and let him dip his spoon. He usually tries for a while but gets frustrated not getting more than a drip at a time, so he lets me feed him or at least load the spoon and help guide it in. Towards the end we usually end up drinking out of the bowl to get every last drop! He is a soup maniac though, he loves my chicken and dumplings, tomato soup, lentil soup, even Pho! Hopefully your LO will like it, it's my favorite way to get meat because even if he spits out the chunks I figure he gets nutrition from the broth too! GL!

  • Dmitri likes hamburgers and regular steak cut into tiny bites.

Right now, as long as he can stab it with a fork he'll eat it.
