Favorite Toys and Books

With Christmas coming up, we have LO's grandparents asking what toys and what not she might want.. Money for college is what I tell them. Apparently she needs toys though. It's not that I am against toys, but I don't agree with her having a bunch of toys that will end up in a toy box never to be played with. With that said, what toys have you found to be fun (and also educational) for LO and what are your favorite books to read to your LO? She will be 5 months old this Christmas, but I think most anything we get for her will fall into the 6 month old category.

Re: Favorite Toys and Books

  • We don't have a high chair, plastic plates, utensils, or an activity center/jumper. So we're "asking" for that. Otherwise college fund money. Maybe a few books or something.

  • Totally didn't think about plates and utensils! Thanks @LEMSA
  • I am hoping LO will get more clothing in the 9 or 12 month range. He is pretty set in the 6 month range. So I hope people will buy him clothes, which I think are fun for them to pick out.

As far as toys, I would like some blocks (wooden blocks) with a storage box (wooden storage box). We don't have a jumper/exercise saucer and I think DS might like one.

I am sure people will just pick out what they want anyway.

I've always like the Lamaze Take Along toys that can clip to the jumperoo. (I have a Baby Einstein one that has tons of places to clip things on.) They're also handy to have to clip to a suction cup toy to use in a high chair or while out in restaurants.

You're also going to find an activity table handy sometime in the next year.

I've always loved the Dr Seuss books and have been working toward owning all of them. I keep the ones I don't have on DD's wish list.

I also love reading the books by the guys who came up with Those Darn Squirrels. If you plug that title into Amazon you'll get the other silly books written by the same team; Secret Pizza Party, The Day the Crayons Quit, This Moose Belongs to Me... ect. They're not annoying to read over and over and now that DD1's older she *gets* them more and finds them hysterical.

Some of our other favorites include Click, Clack, Moo (and the all the ones written after it), Interrupting Chicken, The Stinky Cheese Man. My all time favorite (outside of the silly category) is Who Will Sing a Lullaby.

  • We haven't started reading a lot of books, but LO seems to enjoy "Goodnight Moon" and "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom." For toys she likes her Lamaze toys: Muffin the Moose and Captain Calamari. I might get her Jacques the Peacock or Freddie the Firefly.

  • I plan on telling anyone who asks that Ds could use clothes, an activity table, or bumbo-type seat. Books are always great too though!
