diaper rash creams

So i just saw something on facebook that made me curious.

A friends been posting about how her dd has a diaper rash thats bleeding and not getting better. Today she posted that she didnt want to use the prescription diaper rash cream because it had zinc in it.

Did i miss something? I thought you wanted zinc in diaper rash creams to keep the skin dry.

Re: diaper rash creams

  • The higher the zinc the better for diaper rash cream. That's what I have found and what the less say anyway.

  • If DS had diaper rash that was bleeding, I would be using whatever the doctor gave me if it meant it would get better.

Thats my thought. Thats why i was confused, i mean, why woudnt you use what helps your kid feel better

  • Sounds strange but don't be too quick to judge on it. You can be allergic to zinc or have bad reactions to it. Without asking her her reasoning, you won't know.

  • Does she cloth diaper?
Some people have problems with it not rinsing out (and causing repelling) or staining their diapers. I haven't had any problems with it though.
I find it strange she wouldn't use what the doctor gave her. You'd think if their was an allergy risk, she would have mentioned it to the doctor and gotten an alternative prescription.

Yes... Side eye that broad. I'm as granola as a soybean and I would use whatever it took to help my child.

If she doesn't want to put anything "unnatural" on her child's skin then why is she using Huggies? Zinc is a lot better for your skin than the substances used to make most diapers. SMH.

I find her statment just stupid since shes hardly a crunchy momma. I also feel like its dumb to ignore your pedi.

  • Ummmm... kind of side-eyeing that she doesn't realize zinc is natural. You can mine for zinc. It's pretty natural.

It is also in seafood, spinach, pumpkin seeds, chocolate, beans, most meats.

I would let it go... She may just be looking for something to be "defensive" about.

  • Poor baby!

My DS had diaper rash and he cried and cried (and it wasn't bleeding). I think we have 5 kinds of diaper rash cream in our house. We just kept trying and trying to get one that works. I think they all work, it was just a matter of allowing time for the diaper rash to clear up.
