Thoughts on this baby product? And recipes?

I saw a thread (on either the Dec '13 or Nov '13 board) about the "Fresh Squeezed" line from Infantino. Basically it's a way to make your homemade baby food. You can buy the food processor and a bunch of add on type of things, but there's this pouch filling station "thing" so that you can make your own baby food pouches (It's only $24.99 for the filling station!)

I priced it out and the store bought pouches can cost around $1.50/each, while the refill bags for the Infantino set is $16.99/50 so it's basically $0.34 per pouch (plus whatever food you're putting in them, but all in all it seems like a huge savings!) You can refrigerate or freeze these pouches too, which is awesome! I think these could be great for packing food for daycare, to have on hand for snacks, etc.

Here it is on BRU: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=15439726&cp=&parentPage=search

I looked online and saw some great  reviews on the product, and I added it to our registry. We'll only get the filling station and the refill bags, because we have a nice Cuisinart food processor already.

Does anyone have any experience with this product? BTDT moms, is it a waste? cool $ saving idea?

Does anyone have any good links for baby food recipes? I've tried to look a bit online but haven't found a great site yet.

  • I like the idea of this machine, even though my DS rejected purees and we did BLW. Once he got a little older and was used to feeding himself (roughly a year old) I bought a few applesauce and yogurt pouches to keep in the diaper bag for snacks on the go and DS loves them. I still keep them around for travelling and trips out of the house.

I second Wholesome Baby Foods.  My kiddos rejected purees too but that site is a wealth of info.

  • That looks awesome. DS still likes pouches at 19m old and they're pricy. I might have to order this. Thanks for sharing!

  • I also used Wholesome Baby Foods website. I made purees using the food processor I already had. Early on, I froze the food in ice cube trays (each cube is 1 oz, so it's easy to know how much baby is getting). I eventually got these https://www.littlegreenpouch.com/, they worked pretty well once LO was ready for pouches, but make sure you get the special cleaning brush to go with it, or they will never get cleaned.

  • I've also been thinking a lot about BLW and I'd like to do a combo of that and purees only because I know that H and I don't eat a huge variety of fruits/veggies normally, and I'd like to have these pouches as an option to make sure LO gets as much good stuff as possible!

  • Thanks for posting that! I think it looks cool and will probably be adding too.  I found this book on amazon that we will probably pick up:

  • Even though I have a food processor I think we will still get one of those made for baby ones.  Ours is huge and I'd like one that steams and process all in one machine.

It's a little pricey but plan on hopefully using it for more than 1 child!

  • I know a few people who used that and raved about it due to the savings. It's definitely cheaper than buying the pouches, which aren't cheap. I made all my DD's food, and while she liked purees, she never would eat out of the pouches, so it wouldn't have worked for me.

  • DD loved the pouches and still does. I would recommend the Sili Squeeze their website is www.thesilico.com. They make reusable silicone pouches. The best part about them is that LO can't squeeze it into a huge mess like the ones they have in the store. They have to suck it to get it out. I love ours DD has been using them for over a year and they still are holding up great. You can find a lot of great recipes online.
  • We put that on our registry too! I had a mom friend tell me this past weekend that it is totally worth it!

  • I put the station and the pouches on my registry and someone bought them.  I have friends that swear by the organic puree pouches with their 16+month olds, so I'm hoping it will work well enough to replace them and save a few bucks since I'll be buying/growing organic fruits and veggies anyway.

  • I'm thinking about getting the pouch station this time around. DS still loves pouches so it's worth it in my mind.

  • OMG brilliant! I made DS1's baby food and while I did BLW with DS2, I did use the pouches but they are so expensive!! I tried to make them at home and never had much luck. This is great. I'm totally getting one.

  • FYI Pinterest has many, many recipes for baby purees and tips on what foods to introduce first.

  • We actually received this from our registry and I am so excited about this.  A mom/friend of mine uses them currently and loves them and the system.  I received a baby cook as well so I will use that and then just use the station to fill the pouches.  I think it is such a neat concept and a great way to save some money.
  • I made DD baby food.. But I put them in containers or froze them in ice cube trays. Having it able to put in a squeezer would be awesome. Thanks for posting the link and photo.
