shoes and socks

How in the world do you get LO used to shoes and socks. I put a pair of shoes on her last night and she screamed bloody murder until I took them off. With socks she just pulls them off and chews on them. It is getting colder here and she needs something on her feet and when she starts walking, shoes are going to be a necessity. Ideas? Tips or tricks?

Re: shoes and socks

  • DS doesn't scream, but he does take them off. I'm trying to find styles with elastic around the heel, Velcro, or something else to ensure a good fit so he can't take them off, but idk about the screaming.

  • M is kinda the same way.  If I put socks on her in the house, she pulls them off.  We got some white lace up shoes.  She does pretty well keeping those on when we're shopping.  Sometimes she tries to take them off in the car though.  Overall, she's getting better at wearing hats/shoes now that it's pretty cold here.  I'd say focus on only having her wear them when you're out and about.

  • My LO tolerates the Bobux (similar to Robeez) soft shoes and she doesn't take them off.  Socks, on the otherhand, are a different story.  I pretty much just put the shoes on her when we are going out, and usually there is so much going on she doesn't care about her feet.

  • sammie was the same with the screming but all of a sudden changed her mind and likes them.. now that she is walking... I think its just a phase... she still will throw a fit in the car sometimes pulling off her socks...

  • The ones I tried were some keen Velcro sandals, so not soft. I plan on getting her some soft shoes soon, so hopefully that helps. Thanks for the help ladies.

  • yep, pulls off socks and chews - hates hats too - guess Im not leaving the house all winter ;/

  • DD pulls and chews her socks too! She will try to pull her shoes off all the time but once I got her shoes hat truest fit she doesn't mind them so much. And if I match her socks to her pants she is less likely to pull them off haha

  • My LO does the same thing. Cries, shakes andacts as if shes scared of them. We just walked down the aisle of shoes and she wasnt having it. But now we do have something called I believe a slipper sock. She'll wear those pretty easily and keeps them on too. I'll try to attatch a link below to some similar ones.

  • He will leave shoes on. Right now we are just doing Robeez. He is constantly pulling his socks off, but if I put the Robeez on in addition to the socks he will leave them alone. He wore both all day today. I find that if I get him dressed, put on shoes and socks, and then distract him with an activity or toy he forgets about them.
