When do you send out invitations for baby shower?

Hi everyone,

obviously FTM here- just wondering when you send out invites for a baby shower. My mom and SIL and friend are planning it, but I have to give them a list of names for invitations and what not. If my shower is some time at the end of January, when should I send out the invites?

I think 5-6 weeks is a nice window, to give people time to plan, budget, etc...

We're sending ours now (today actually) and the shower is on Dec 7th - so about 5 weeks. I would have preferred 6, but that snuck up too fast on me!

I guess it's different in my circle, I figured about 2-3 weeks. Wedding invites are usually 6 weeks, and showers aren't typically as big. I would say news will circulate when it is, so people will know, and then the formal invitation goes out a few weeks in advance. I guess it's different if people need to make travel arrangements (fly), but 6-8 weeks just sounds like a huge window just for a shower.

I'm in the 6-8 weeks for wedding invites and 2-3, maybe 4 for showers (wedding and baby).

I'd give your list of names and addresses before Thanksgiving, and then let your shower hosts take care of it. That'll give them a few weeks to get things addressed and mailed.

You took the words out of my mouth. I think guests should be given extra time around major holidays to budget.

I'm not sure about sending out invites 6-8 weeks in advance for a baby shower, but I definitely think 4 weeks sounds about right. Gives people time to get it on their calendars and budget if they are choosing to buy a gift. I do agree with @mssm2012 that I would just give your names and addresses to the hosts and let them worry about the timing though!

My shower is Jan 25, so I think we'll do more than 4 weeks, so the invites don't get too lost in the shuffle of Christmas. Maybe 6ish? My sister did send an email to my out of town friends and family, telling them the date in advance, so they can plan travel if they're able to come.

I think most of the shower invites I've gotten recently have been in the 6-8 week range. Well, that would only be two. The most recent I just got I think about 5-6 weeks before the shower, asking to rsvp 2 weeks before, but the one before that I'm pretty sure was about 8 weeks before the shower, asking rsvp 4 weeks before.

Just received one 5.5 wks before baby shower, so she must have sent at 6 weeks. There will be people traveling from OH and MI to IL, so I think the timing was right.

My local shower is Dec 7th also, and they are going out tomorrow. My back home shower went out last week, and that is the Saturday after thanksgiving (only time I will get back home 8+hours away)

My work shower, is in mid January (scary!), they typically send e-vites 3-4 weeks in advance.
