LO keeps hurting herself :-(

I am at a loss :-( My little girl keeps scratching her belly everytime I change her clothes/bathe her/.. pretty much whenever she is not wearing a shirt. And by scratching I mean she goes to town with both hands and keeps rubbing up and down her belly. And I have absolutely no idea why. Anyone else's baby do this? I always try to hold her arms as best as I can to keep her from doing it but the older and more moveable she gets the harder it is. And of course her scratching herself hurts her and then cries. She does have sensitive skin and I understand her scratching it whenever her skin is broken out a little. But she does it all the time, even if her skin looks perfectly fine. Can anyone help?

Re: LO keeps hurting herself :-(

  • mittens? I've contemplated putting socks on S's hands since she scratches herself up all the time. Does she only scratch at her belly? If that's the case, maybe putting lotion on might help if maybe her skin is dry. If it's really bad I might ask the pedi. Also, I keep S's nails as short as I possibly can (i.e. I cut them at least once a week) because she scratches at her head and leaves all kinds of nicks if I don't

  • I will have to start putting mittens on her when I change her! And all the pedi has done is prescribe a mild steroid cream for when her skin breaks out, so that doesn't help. I put Aquaphor on her all the time (yes, she only scratches her belly?!) to make sure her skin doesn't get itchy, and her skin looks normal, but she still goes crazy. And the weird thing is that once she wears clothes again she might rub her belly a little but it's not like it irritates her all the time and keeps her from sleeping or playing. She is a happy baby, just keeps hurting herself. So strange.
  • I have to clip my LO's nails twice a week to keep them short enough so that she doesn't scratch herself. She doesn't intentionally scratch herself, but she has definitely left scratches on her face if I let her nails get too long.

  • My friends son always scratched himself. He literally had wounds all over his face and body. I have no advice except maybe mittens, although you have probably tried that. Awe its so sad though!

  • We put socks on LM's hands at night. She scratches like crazy otherwise.

I'd put a Movember mustache fail, but then
you'd all have to look at it until February.
