Stalled Weight at 9 months

So just before we left on vacation Oct 23, I took Hannah in for her 9 month appointment. Well I weigh her every month b/c we had weight gaining issues in the beginning. And she didn't gain any weight between 8 and 9 months. She did start crawling a lot in that time, and now she is a cruising machine!! And the doctor reassured me that it's okay and she's not worried. But part of me feels guilty, like maybe I haven't been feeding her the healthiest of solid foods or what not. So two questions

1. Anybody else have a weight stall when babies started crawling/cruising/walking?
2. Any suggestions for high calorie solid foods, we're doing BLW

Thanks!!

    1) we haven't been to M's 1 yr appt yet, but his weight percentile has been slowly dropping. He was 90+ percentile for weight when he was <6m, then around 70th percentile at 6m, and down to 50ish percentile at 9m. Doctor isn't worried and neither am I, though I would have been had M started at a low percentile and dropped to even lower.

    2) what kinds of foods have you been feeding Hannah?  For M, we do fresh fruits at breakfast. Full fat plain yogurt, bread with cheese for lunch, and fruits. Snack is more yogurt and plain cheerios or fruits. Dinner Is whatever I'm cooking that night. (Eg, tonight was sausage & brown rice stuffed delicata squash).

  • I give Hannah oatmeal with applesauce most mornings. And she kinda just eats whatever we eat for dinner. I guess it's around lunch time and snacks. She eats a lot of puffs and like yogurt melts, cuz they're easy to feed her and she just loves them. But I think cheese is a good idea.

  • Be careful with too much cheese. One of my friends refers to it as a "butt plug", and it's totally true for DD if I let her have too much. You can also try a little yogurt instead of the melts. DD used to love plain yogurt with a little fruit puree mixed in, which I did instead of flavored yogurts that can have a lot of sugar.

DD's weight started dropping percentiles at 10m when she started crawling. At her 9m before becoming active, she was like 90th% and by 15m down to 35th%. Our pedi said not to worry about it, they'll let you know if they're still hungry!

I would also switch to Cheerios instead of puffs. Those things are just air and have no calories. DD dropped to 10th% and has stayed there for almost a year. We gave her a lot of unsalted butter at that age on toast, waffles, etc. also scrambled eggs, peanut butter and avocado.

DS loved (and still loves) beans. He eats black beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans,... I just open the can, rinse them, and add a little garlic powder and lime juice.

Hannah is starting to burn calories with all that moving. DS really started to thin out when he started crawling and walking. I don't know the exact weight from month to month since we just weighed in at regular appointments. Try not to worry if the pedi isn't worried, okay?

  • If your Dr isn't worried, I wouldn't be either.  They really start to level off when they become more mobile - they are burning a ton of calories.  I agree with a lot of other suggestions - shredded cheese, yogurt, avocado, scrambled eggs, etc.

  • E has only gained one lb from 12 months to 15 months. Her dr isn't worried either. They just get so busy after they learn to crawl and cruise and walk.
I would try to get her some more calorie dense lunches and snacks. Yogurt, nut butters, eggs, avocado, things like that are higher calorie and good for them.

  • Our guy started crawling at 6 months and walking at 9 and with how active he is its so hard to keep the pounds on! We add butter or olive oil to his veggies and meat, (my kid does not eat baby food, never had a taste for it, just eats what we eat in smaller softer bites) we also changed him to whole milk, and offer cheese, hard bouled eggs, and yogurt as snacks, and everything we buy is full fat... It helps and now at 14 months he is starting to gain more weight, but just hit 19lbs! Lol being active is a good thing but he needs way more calories! Keep going and uf the dic is not worried then you should not be either, an you will know best if your LO is not acting right... :)

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

    Baby Dust To All!!!

  • DD gained very little once she started moving, and even though we have been on a high calorie diet and she eats a lot she just burns too much. Things that we added to her diet were whole fat Greek yogurt (I mix it up once a week with frozen fruit and put it in reusable pouches so she can feed herself), avocados, eggs, and full fat cottage cheese.
