NBR: Tide Pods

Just wanted to get your opinions for those who have tried them...what did you think?  Better than your standard Tide powder? Worse? What was your favorite scent?  Keep vacillating between picking these up or just sticking with the powder...

Re: NBR: Tide Pods

  • I used to work at a store that sold major appliances and they always warned people against using the pods. I guess they're supposed to be really hard on your machine.
We use a liquid Free & Clear detergent & it always does a pretty good job.

  • I like liquid tide, the lavender febreeze one. I don't feel like the pods work.

  • We use them, but I'm thinking about switching. Sometimes they don't dissolve all the way and you get a little plastic goo ball stuck to your socks.

  • I use them and have no complaints
  • My sister just told me today that they are unsafe to have around children because they are small and can look like candy to them. She said my nephew ate one. So if you have toddlers around just keep an eye on them and keep them out of their reach.
  • I used to use them and loved them but I also read what pp mentioned about them looking like candy to kids. Not worth the risk.

This is strange to me. If you love the detergent, why wouldn't you keep using it and simply take appropriate precautions (high shelves, cabinet locks, etc.) to keep it away from your kids until they're old enough to understand that it's dangerous? We're not going to stop keeping medicines and cleaning products in our home just because we have a baby, but we are going to take steps to keep the baby away from things that are dangerous to her.

  • We use the tide pods and love it equally to the liquid tide. Honestly I have the tide pods so I don't get asked how much detergent goes in the wash each time someone else wants to help out ..

  • I don't like the pods, anyway... But I'm also cheap. Those things get expensive.

I guess "love" was too strong of a word. I don't love any detergent that much. Also, most other cleaning supplies and medicines don't look like actual candy.

I agree with this but now I realize I need to find a new home for my cascade pods soon or get some cabinet locks (which I was planning to do anyway) :)  I store them under the  kitchen sink.

I like the idea of the tide pods simply because I think I tend to use too much detergent, but too many reviews say how they don't dissolve right away and I use cold water for laundry most of the time.

  • We use them, I haven't really noticed a difference from our usual free & clear liquid, which I guess is a good thing! We also use the pods for the dishwasher... I guess we're a pod family :)
