hospital bag (just an observation - not a Q)

So DH and I FINALLY got around to packing our hospital bag last night.

As we were going through the lists, one of them said "For the mother: baggy going-home clothes, NOT what you wore to the hospital.  Maternity pants are a good idea."

All I can think is - what exactly are they expecting me to wear to the hospital?!?  Formal evening wear?  Crotchless Spiderman outfit?

I mean - I will either be wearing maternity pants or my big baggy pajama pants to the hospital (that's all I wear now-a-days) - and I really doubt I'll care if I wear my pants two times in a row when leaving the hospital.....

IDK - no real point to this - it just made me laugh, so figured I'd pass it along :-p

Re: hospital bag (just an observation - not a Q)

  • I threw in a maternity dress to wear home. I don't want to go into labor at work and have to wear those same clothes home or god forbid trust H to pick something out to bring to the hosp after all is said and done.

  • Wow. I don't even know if I have 2 different outfits anymore. Why would you not wear what you wore in, unless your water happened to break whilst in it?
I didn't think of that - but the chances of my water breaking in the 15 min drive to the hospital seems pretty low....

my work is very lax, so I wear maternity jeans to work, I wouldn't mind coming home in them....

I mean, I threw another outfit in there just because - better safe than sorry
  • Yoga pants and nursing top will be my outfit home. And a sweatshirt depending on how cold it is. I'm all about comfort, not style! :-)

I mean - I get that, and beside for a nursing bra (packed) - that's exactly what I plan on wearing TO the hospital too - that was my point, I'm wearing the same thing there that I'll want to wear back.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • My water broke before we went to hospital and was all over my pants so I would definitely reccomend bringing a separate set of clothes.
  • Mine will likely be yoga pants in and yoga pants out, different pairs but comfortable... Shirt wise it depends on when I go into labor, I am still wearing my pregnancy clothes so packing those are a last minute thing for me... I may have to do a load of laundry waiting for labor to progress if I start to go early. I have been trying to do a load every 3 days just to make sure I have something comfy to wear.
  • I wish I could wear comfortable clothes to work. Business professional all the way ... I can't wait to go into labor and wear whatever I want for the next 3 months.
  • That is some weird wording. I am bringing my full panel leggings to wear home. C sections are a bitch. The incision has to stay covered and mine is right where the waist band of list of maternity jeans. FYI-using a menstrual pad as a bandage is awesome. It covers the incision and provides extra padding.

This is a great idea! I will be having a repeat c/s as well and never thought to do this. Note taken, thank you!

  • I packed comfy sweats a long sleeve and a hoodie it's cold in philly end of Nov
  • Can't go wrong with yoga pants.  I wore them in and wore them out.  One, thing I was glad I did was pack an extra hoodie.  The zip up hoodie, I wore in did would not zip up over my boobs when we left.   My boobs were/are HUGE! The stick out more than my bump did.  Keep this in mind when packing!
  • Definitely bringing another outfit. Last time my water broke before I got to the hospital and afterwards water still leaks a little.
  • I have to wear pants to the hospital?  ::rethinking "going to hospital outfit":::

Thank you for posting this! I've been told to prepare for a potential c-section so this is great advice! (I hate that I have to pack for both situations though - rawr!)

  • I packed two outfits and my mom ended up surprising me with nursing pyjamas and I ended up wearing them home. Lol. I kept the gowns on for the first 24 hrs then changed. IMO all you need is some sleepers for LO, pjs for you, slippers, cell phone, camera and toiletries. I loved the mesh undies and ended up taking a bunch home with me and never ended up wearing my undies that I packed.
  • Considering my maternity leggings have been my go to my whole pregnancy I will be going and coming home from the hospital in them. Good thing I have about 8 pairs. Maternity leggings, nursing tank, sweater and Uggs. Comfy is key in my book.

I wore leggings and a loose top to the hospital and left with a flowy dress. During my stay, all I really needed was my robe and loose pants. I got mine at Plum Pretty Sugar! So comfy and made me feel human :)
  • Heh.  I wore one of my two pairs of fleece pants, and a t-shirt, there, wore them home, and kept wearing them for the several days after we came home, until the baby peed on me at her first ped appt.

    Yeah, I'm lazy.
