Because the risk of emergency c-section is so much higher with twins, my OB (who is very pro natural birth) wants me to have an epidural line in place, even if we don't end up using it, so that I won't need general anesthesia in case of a cesaerian. It just now occurred to me that this might mean I can't labor in the tub ... does anyone know if that's the case? I will see my OB on Tuesday and can ask him then, but in the meantime I am wondering.
Re: Tub labor with epi in place?
I was pretty sure that laboring in the water once it was in place was out of the question ... sigh. I am getting more anxious as the time approaches because I remember how much harder it was to manage the pain once I was at the hospital (my last birth was in another hospital, no laboring tubs or even really freedom of movement ...), and it seems that even many of the resources the hospital itself has won't be available to me. (Like the tubs.)
On the one hand, I'm trying to be realistic that the med-free birth I want may not happen and to be okay with that ... but I worry that if I'm *too* accepting of it I won't have the resolve to try my darndest.
