Hello, At my 38 week appointment tomorrow they are going to offer the membrane sweep? Did anyone do this on week 38? If so do you recommend it or just wait until baby is ready?
I had it done at 40w3d and nothing happened. I would not get it done at 38 weeks because I don't believe a baby is done developing at that point. Patience, young grasshopper... enjoy I the sleep and solo time with your SO (MOTN feeding snark)
I had it done at my 40 and 41 week appts. I cramped afterwards but it didn't send me into labor. I don't think they will offer it and I wouldn't do it until 40 wks. You also need to be dilated for them to sweep. I know those last few weeks seem like forever but he/she willl be here before you know it!
I also had it done at 40w and 41w. It didn't work for me- I still got induced at 41w 4d. On the chance that it will work for you, I wouldn't do it at 38w. Baby is not done developing at that point. The ACOG just changed their definitions and past due is now considered 42 weeks or more.
I started membrane sweeps at week 38 because my midwife suggested it. Don't really know why she did but I didn't have LO until 40w2d so while I'm sure it helped me progress, it didn't send me into labor weeks 38 and 39. I had it done again at my 40wk (technically 40w1d) and was in active labor within a few hours. Honestly, it's all on you whether or not you choose to do it since some people aren't sent into labor because of it but still progress, others progress but don't go into labor, and some people go into labor 'shortly' thereafter.
I had it done at 38 weeks and went into labor at 40 weeks 2 days. Did nothing for me. Unless baby is ready I see no point. I will not get my membranes swept with any of my future pregnancies.
I had mine done at 40 weeks 3 days, and was in labor a couple of hours later. They offered at 38 and 39 weeks, but I declined since I wanted to wait until I was technically passed my due date.
I don't think your doctor would advise it for you if they didn't think it was safe or if there were thoughts of complications as a result of it. I just had mine done last week, I am 3 days shy of 40weeks... Nothing happened just more Braxton hicks. I went in at 4CM and 90% effaced and today there has been no change. I am going to be induced tomorrow.
I had it done at 39 weeks and I still had to be induced the day after my due date. I would say you want to wait as close to 40 weeks as possible. Babies born before 40 weeks have a higher chance of having breathing issues (yes even at 37-39 weeks). Obviously not EVER baby born before 40 weeks have issues but I wanted him to stay put as long as possible. Enjoy your sleep and your boobs for a couple more weeks.
I had it done with both kiddos. At 38 weeks with DS1, it did nothing. At 39 weeks, I went into labor about five hours later. At 38 weeks with DS2, it actually started my labor.
At 38 weeks exactly, my OB checked me and said I was barely 1 cm and 25% effaced. She scheduled my induction for the next weekend (I had GD). She said she tried to sweep my membranes a little during the check... I went into labor at 10:30 AM the next morning. Had our little girl at 7:10 PM that night. Just my experience.

I would wait, since baby is not ready yet.
