wipe warmer..yes or no?

My LO is due mid january, when it is very cold here.  Is a wipe warmer neccessary or a waste?  I would hate to be wiped down with a ice cold wet wipe myself, but I heard they can be faulty too.

No no no no. Waste. Just like warming bottles every time. Your baby will get used to the warm wipes, and throw a fit when a "cool" wipe touches them.

This exactly!!!! When u are out and about u will not have "warm" wipes and if that's all u use it will NOT go over well!!!! The baby will get used to them and should....IMO. Waste!
  • Honestly, I think that they are a waste. I live in an area with a cold winter, but we keep the house warm enough and you just have to be quick with the diaper change and it is all over with and the baby can be snuggled back up and warm again. I have also heard about them drying out the wipes, and I don't want to be worried about having something else plugged in in the house. That is just my opinion though :)

  • Personally, I think they are a waste of money. My LO's tush will do just fine with an unwarmed wipe!

  • I have a wipe warmer, my kids never complain about cold wipes either.

  • I actually heard this from crazy celeb Tori spelling. At the beginning of changing the baby, put the wipe down your cleavage and then by the time you need it, it will be a little warmer to use on the baby. Since this solution costs nothing, I will be trying it out :)

  • Waste of money. Baby gets spoiled so when ur in public u have one pissed off kid for using a cold wipe. Its not like he or she will remember u using cold wipes to wipe his or her ass.

  • Someone mentioned just warming it up a bit between your hands before using. That's my plan.

This. As easily spoiled as my child gets, not havin the warmer when we were out was never a deal. Ever. I had never even heard about children getting spoiled on them/throwing a fit until I found the bump... If you keep water in it all the time to where the may thing doesn't dry out, your wipes won't yellow.
  • We had one because our oldest screamed bloody murder when we changed her. It was nice to use during the night. She was a bad sleeper & I would've given anything to get her to sleep more. I used it a lot with her because the nursery was close to the living room. With #2 we moved & I was too lazy to go upstairs. We survived with out it but it is nice to have

    Absolutely not.

And honestly some of the other suggestions with warming the wipe before using it?  Ha.  Good luck with that.  It will be hard enough to change the diaper fast enough that you don't get peed/pooped on... warming a wipe will be the last thing on your mind.  For real.

  • I'm in PA and I say no, no, no. DS was a winter baby too and was just fine without one. Plus it was one less thing to "need" in the nursery let alone needing to have it near an outlet to stay warm.

  • Ok so I agreed 100% with you guys until DD was born, I thought they were stupid. But- her newborn self woke up a lot more and a lot grumpier at 3 am with a cold wipe on her butt...so we bought one. I never had any trouble with it and this kid has no problem using cold wipes while out and about, never has. My wipes never get discolored or dried out. So I will use it for the next baby but that's just my experience.

  • Nope.  Not going to get one.  They will just dry out the wipes.
Someone told me that if you are in a place that is really chilly...just take a wipe and stick it in your shirt for a few seconds (I guess by the neckline) while you are getting the dirty diaper off.  This should warn it up a little because it is against your body heat.
IMO, the baby will be fine without the warmed wipes.  I mean, honestly, it is not like we are changing the babies outside in the cold.  The house has heat.  The wipes should be fine. :)
  • Nope, no warmers. Easier to make the kid deal without one you don't have one readily available.

  • Had my first baby in NJ and it was quite cold. He did fine without a wipes warmer.  Anyway, your wipes will be the temp of your house, not temp of outside!

  • I have never even seen one for sale in New Zealand, so I am going to say no! But if you really want a gadget, go for it.
  • We don't keep our house very warm and I don't want to get one. DH has been wanting one. He spoke with his 2 cousins who have kids and both used wipe warmers. They said they aren't necessary but wouldn't go without it now that they've used one.
