Fell down the steps....with Nate

Nate and I were going down the steps to the basement which does not have a railing. He was walking between me and the wall while I was holding his hand.

*Just* as I was saying to DH "we really need to get a railing here", my foot slipped off the tread and I fell forward and down about four steps. My fall was broken by my head hitting the wall where the stair turns. I then slid down the last three steps on my back and got a front row seat to Nate falling behind me. He sorta skidded on his stomach and was trying to catch himself with his hands. It was futile. I tried to leap back up but was unable to intervene until his head hit a step and stopped him. The steps are painted wood. The whole thing was terrifying.

Que DH, who now comes running over from the downstairs TV area. He begins to yell at us for falling. I know he was panicking, but I still wanted to punch him. I shouted "How is yelling at me helpful right now!?? Jesus! it was an accident!" Why is the only rational one in this scenario the one with the head injury? Seriously.

I now have a huge goose egg bump about 2 in above my right ear. According to google I should either be fine or dying of an acute hematoma..

  • Ack! Oh, that's heart-stopping. Fingers crossed for you being fine and I hope Nate emerged unscathed.

  • Oh, no! I'm glad Nate is fine and that Dr. Google gave you the expected response for your own injury.

As for DH.. Well, I hope he's taking good care of you both!
  • How scary!

  • Oh geez! I'm glad you and Nate are okay.
  • Ouch!  And a big ouch for both of you!  I'm glad you guys are ok.  Hopefully your H will agree with why a railing is needed and will put one up soon!
  • OW. I'm glad Nate's okay, and I hope your head feels better today!

  • Did you get a CT and get your head checked out? I walked into a cement pylon and had a mild confession a few weeks ago. It took about 2 weeks not to feel "foggy". Take it easy. Glad you both are okay.

Nah. The head swell went down and is now just tender. I didn't loose consciousness or feel foggy at all, so I decided to wait it out till today....

Poor Nate probably has a complex now about stairs. He fell down our upper stairs about 2 years ago and got staples....Gravity=3   Team Assembly=0

    MOTY (again!)  Right Here...

Eta:Thanks for all the well wishes!

Glad you guys are okay!  FWIW, I fell down with DS2 while I was standing up on level flooring, so don't feel so bad.  Slippery stairs are easy to trip on!

  • How scary!  Glad he's not hurt and you're not hurt badly.  I broke my ankle after I had Josh by falling down the stairs holding him when he was a baby.  My mom had turned the lights off so I couldn't see to go down the stairs as I was getting him a bottle.
  • I've always heard if the bump swells outward thats a good thing!  ;-)
Sorry you fell, that sounds awful & scary.
I totally get the DH being psycho, I got bit by a dog one time and I was hysterical and DH ended up smacking me with his hat to try and get me to speak real words.  That didn't work either, lol.
Hope you are both on the mend soon!
