homebirth/natural birth friendly pediatricians?

I took my 6-day old in for pink eye and had the most awful experience with a pompous dr. who was extremely condescending about my more "alternative" choices for my son (birth center, no eye drops at birth).  Can someone recommend a dr. who is friendly towards alternative paths as opposed to quick in and out visits and "medicate everything" attitude?  I have seen lots of recs for Dr. Rachel Rapasz but she is not taking new patients.  Thank you!

Re: homebirth/natural birth friendly pediatricians?

  • I am part of a private FB group for homebirth moms, and some one recently asked this exact question. The names I saw on the thread included: Dr. Sarah Johnson (FV Uptown Clinic); Synergy Family Physicians (White Bear Lake); Drs Dr. Maria Kaefer  & Kara Parker (HCMC clinics); Dakota Pediatrics (St. Paul); Dr. Neis at Southdale Pediatrics;   Dr Clevenger  (HealthEast); Deb Swendroski (HealthEast).

I had both my kids at Abbott, and we have a pediatrician from the General Peds Clinic at Children's in MPLS (Dr. Goepferd), and she didn't have a problem with my declining eye goop at all, or declining a bath at birth. We vax, except delay varicella until kindergarten, and it wasn't an issue. You do have to schedule well baby/child appointments with her about 4 months in advance. She seems to be pretty booked up.

  • I will second Dr. Sarah Johnson at the Uptown Clinic as well as Dr. Sarah Ndyajunwoha - same clinic. They are both AMAZING. Dr. Ndyajunwoha has been my OBGYN for like 3 years now and is the pediatrician for both our boys now (8 years and 5 months).

  • Don't know if you're still reading this but Dr. Rapacz will probably be taking one new patient at least since I sadly just had my last appt with her.  My insurance is changing and HCMC no longer covered.  Maybe I'll try that uptown fairview clinic...
