Give baths??

Hi there. My little one won't be here till April but I have a question. When should I start to give my little one a bath? How often? Thanks

Re: Give baths??

  • I waited until the cord came completely off, until then I just have her a sponge bath. We try to at least rinse her off every day, but only use soap every other. It really just is a matter of preference.

  • Sponge bath every other day until cord fell off. Then we did a bath every other night. Put a little soap in the water and use washcloth to bath body. I put a dot of soap on the washcloth at the end and massage her hair/head with it. No lotion until she's older (if she needs it)

  • We started at a little over 2 weeks giving full baths, just sponge baths until then. We give a bath every other night but I do a wash down the other nights of nooks and crannies thayt can get a bit crusty. If there is a blowout or an explosive amount of poop we'll do a full bath that day.
  • Same as previous posters said, after the cord falls off, and it's personal preference as to the frequency. We bathe LO four times a week or as needed.

  • Wait to give a real bath until the cord falls off. After that, it really just depends on you and your baby. DS doesn't really have any fat rolls and never has so it was always easy to clean him up. We aimed for a bath a week but if we went a little over that, we didn't worry and still don't. It isn't like he's doing anything to get dirty, anyway. Plus, we have some baby wash that doesn't require rinsing that we use in between bath times.

  • We did sponge baths every night until the cord came off at 2 weeks. We do submerged baths now every night as part of LO's bedtime routine.
  • Sponge bath 3 times a week until cord fell off. Now every night as part of bed routine. She loves it!!!!!
  • We gave him a sponge bath maybe twice a week but wiped his face, hands, and neck every day and as needed. We continued to sponge bathe him after his cord came off because we were more comfortable doing that than an actual bath. Around 4 weeks we started doing a nightly bath to get him ready for bed. We just use soap every other day so his skin doesn't get too dry.
  • Full bath time twice a week, unless he is super dirty for some reason.  Otherwise we do a 'sponge bath' with baby wipes every morning.  Quick, easy, and keeps me feeling like he is clean.  But as the others said, no full bath until the cord has fallen off.
  • No full baths until cord is off.  I try to do a full bath every other night.  I will try to start making it a part of our night time routine since he is in daycare.  I feel like my kids come home with germs from other people...  Sounds crazy, I know.  My 9 year old can be around some funky kids a school, so might as well make it a habit for both kids....
  • As a new mom I was wondering this too. My LO is 3 weeks old and her cord hasn't detached as of yet. She gets sponge baths twice a week. The nurses in the hospital told us to only bath her a couple times a week as newborn skin is sensitive. She hates baths and cries the whole time, until she gets dried off.
