No movement since last night!?! Advice!!

My LO usually moves A LOT at night. She's on a crazy sleep schedule, but last night I felt nothing, I even slept on my tummy hoping to piss her off so she would moved just so I could feel her, but nope nothing. Then this morning my SO played music to the baby as we usually do and she didn't react to the awesome tunes we had going at all. Now I'm chugging water and eating flips (just because they taste amazing) and waiting for something! I called L&D and they said it's probably just her position but it's scary nonetheless. They said I can't come in, if I'm scared and they will hook my up to check for personal peace of mind, but I don't know what I should do, I don't want to be an annoying FTM nor do I want to put my baby at risk for not checking on her. Advice?!?

  • I can hardly feel mine ever, but coffee usually gets 'em going in my case. Good luck!

  • Did you try juice ? When I'm flat on my back I feel her the most bit if your concerned I would go to l&d

Surprisingly at 25 weeks I feel her constantly throught the day, I've only gained 7lbs so far so shes pretty tight in there which is why I feel her so much
  • I agree with the PPs above.

I also agree with L&D - your little one has probably moved into a position and is kicking away, you're just not feeling it as much. Mine does that to me a lot - and once I feel the kicks again, they tend to be in different spots to support the change in positions.

  • 25 weeks is still early to feel consistent movement. There's a good chance she's moving in there, you just can't feel it. In any case, not sure stomach-sleeping to piss her off is a good idea.

I had days of fairly regular movement that would be followed by long stretches of no movement, and it is hard to take (ETA around 25 weeks, I mean). I hope you feel her soon.

I have to agree with bookshelves on the stomach-sleeping, sleeping on my tummy hurts! I don't know how you can do it! :/

I've only gained 7lbs. Don't really have a huge tummy. I can sleep on my stomach with no pain or discomfort at all. I've realized she'll move more when I'm on my tummy she adjusts herself.
  • I would probably hydrate really well and wait a bit before going to L&D. With my last pregnancy, DD would be really active for a couple days and I guess wear herself out, because then she'd be really still for a day, then back at it the next day.

  • Whenever I don't feel LO move during his normal active time I take a five minute walk around the house, empty my bladder, drink some ice water and eat something sweet like a piece of fruit or candy. This wakes him up every time! Good luck and I'm sure she's fine.
  • I wouldn't let it bother you that much. My Lo can still get in positions that I don't really feel him.
  • @ 27 weeks, there are times where he will go most of the day where I cant feel him. It's worrying I'll admit, but when it happens I'll just lay down, eat or drink something and then feel some soft nudges which tells me that he's just positioned in a way that im not feeling him as prominent as I had before.

they dont even recommend doing kick counts until after week 26 but even then its unreliable until more like week 28.

I would give it today, if you dont feel baby by tomorrow, give your OB a call (JMO)

  • My Ob told me to only be concerned if I didn't feel any movement for over 24 hours AFTER 26 weeks. He said it doesn't have to be constant or hard or anything, but just something, even if it is light and quick.

  • We earthquake simulate the bump to get LO on the move....normally results in angry kicking as it wakes em up :)
  • I would say juice and water. If you end up going to L and D they want you to be hydrated. I can't help you for counting movements, I think each Dr. is a little different. I know some who say 10 kicks/2 hours, others who say a change in their usual habits.  I know for my, being HR, movement is something I'm suppose to watch.

Also, I lost weight due to my HG and haven't gained much weight at all and I don't sleep on my stomach. Pre-pregnancy, yes, but now, I wouldn't risk it. OP it isn't safe no matter if you gained 5lbs or 75 lbs.

  • My doctors said 27/28 weeks before doing kick counts or expecting regular movement.

As a FTM she asked for advice not attitude and what you as a "doctor" feels is the answer. We asked our DR if it was OK for her to sleep on her tummy and she said as long as SHE is comfortable laying that way she's fine. I typically don't rant off on things my wife post but the disrespect is pretty sad. She had a legit concern and she has enough confidence in all you moms to ask for advice. So if you or anyone else feels the need to mock her concerns go somewhere with that crap. I'm asking you respectfully.

public forum, nobody said anything out of line OR mocked her and she asked for advise and was given as such.
Nobody mocked her and all of THAT^^.. oy..

In short, if she's worried, she should ask her OB who has their own way of doing things up to and including going to L&D instead of getting pissy about the responses we provide and having you come to her rescue.

    Ridiculous drama.

  • Nothing gets my LO bumpin' like a big glass of OJ! Did you know it has nearly the same amount of sugar in it as a glass of pop? Only better for you at least! Chug it and then lay perfectly still, no distractions.

At 26 weeks I've gone for hours and hours without feeling baby, and he's generally rambunctious. They still have a lot of room in there.. One little turn and they're kicking your insides, which have no nerve endings, instead of outwards.

My MIL mentioned that her babies used to pull the same trick and her doctor had said that babies can go through growth spurts which make them rest up more. Not sure how much cred that has, but food for thought!

If its really starting to bother you, go get checked out. That's what today's wonderful medical technology is there for. Peace of mind is precious!

This post is full of helpful advice, when really, probably what a lot of people should've done is direct her to the sticky movement thread in the first place. You're inventing this so-called drama.
We appreciate all of the helpful advice trust me. But all she wanted was advice and serious advice on top of that. She called the OB and L&D and said that in the original post but wanted to know what others would do if possibly faced with the same situation.

Apparently you don't appreciate it, and you're seriously overreacting to this post. People have been tremendously helpful. People are telling her what they would do - including NOT sleeping on their bellies. Every OB I've had (3!) has told me that 14 weeks is the cut-off for switching to side sleeping. I have one book that said 14 weeks is idea and that 16 weeks is the absolute cut-off for switching.

Calm down. You would get the same responses on any board, and in many places they'd be much snarkier.

I'm not angry or anything just concerned. And like I mentioned before, we asked her OB n she told us it was ok for her to sleep on her tummy as long as it didn't cause any discomfort. Besides that her sleeping on her tummy isn't the concern. It was the lack of movement that scared us.

  • Just a thought on tummy sleeping since it came up...my SIL gave me a pregnancy pillow that is made for laying on your belly. It has been amazing for me but I don't use it every night. Something to consider for those who want to comfortably lay on their stomachs!

Do you know the name of the pillow or where we can find it?

  • Don't forget to give us an update, btw :-)

At about 26 weeks I had a day where I really didn't remember feeling much movement, maybe a couple light kicks to the bladder or something early in the day. Generally the next few days after a very quiet day are very active days and I wonder if during those quiet times if she is going through a growth spurt and sleeping a lot since I tend to be pretty sore and have more RLP during those times. Try not to stress too much about it, would your OB be willing to do a quick check with the doppler to get her heartbeat if you still aren't feeling her by tomorrow? If you aren't feeling her tomorrow, you might try that.Sometimes just holding my hand on my belly gets a light kick or so too.

  • So much drama llama in this post.

OP, drink a BIG glass of freezing cold juice. Then lay on your side for 10 minutes. If you don't feel a thing, then I would go into L&D for peace of mind, and don't worry about being that FTM, it's better to be safe and not worry! GL!

  • Any movement yet?

What is this pillow?  I try to sleep on my side but then always find myself rolled over half on my stomach.
  • Well now I am drinking a big glass of OJ just because I want to feel LO. Sometimes I just miss LO and when there is movement I love it. Yep FTM here. :x

Thanks for this link! I could have googled myself, and planned on it today, but I found this very helpful. I have gained a significant amount more than 7 pounds and was still comfortable sleeping on my stomach. I have not been, because I was worried about all the things I had heard. I was going to google because I thought if I was still comfortable, was it a big deal? I actually found a lot of information helpful in this post.
