I know this has come up before, but I didn't pay attention

I'm going to call and talk to one of our nurses this week, but in the mean time.....

Has anyone done treatments (IUI/IVF) and not been told to wean?
Are there meds that are NOT safe?
Do you need to have a pp period before starting treatments?

Thanks ladies!

ETA: if you were unexplained IF, were you required to try on your own first?

I am pretty sure you need to wean unless you are doing an unmedicated IUI or natural FET.

I was required to wait 30 days after weaning to start medications again.

I had to wean for IVF and before starting DHEA 3 months prior to trying IVF. It took 2 weeks after fully weaning to get AF. If I didn't get it after 2 weeks I was told to contact my RE and he would help get things started. I def needed a cycle day 1 and therefore an AF to get going. That said, someone else told their RE they had weaned and kept bf during her IVF cycle. And if you're unexplained, maybe you'll get a nice surprise like TJ where she didn't have to wean and got pg on her own! GL

I was told I needed to wean even for my FET for a few reasons - most importantly that my hormones needed to regulate in order to have a better chance for a successful cycle. I would also think that, if you are planning on doing a fresh cycle, stims can't possibly be beneficial for BFing baby!

Thanks! Of course I would need a CD 1! Durrrr, what was I thinking! I'd love to get a surprise BFP! DH may be gone for 6 months in the near future, so it may be highly unlikely that it will happen though

we actually were discussing IUI with frozen sperm as a possibility. Our insurance coverage for IF expires 5 years from the date of the first request, so incase things take a while, we don't want to waste too much time! We have ready used 2.5 years of that time

I had to wean before cycling again. The way my RE explained it was that he wants to be able to have complete control of the hormones through the medications he was prescribing and since BFing changes your hormone balance it can throw things off. Even though I had been getting AF regularly since 8 weeks pp my CD3 bloodwork was all wonky until about four months after I weaned.

I am unexplained and we did not have to TTC on our own first. Once you have an IF diagnosis - even if it is unexplained - then the diagnosis doesn't just go away. We had frozen embryos so we purposely did not try on our own since we wanted to give the embryos we had already created a chance.

We are not currently pursuing treatment because DD is not ready to wean and I feel like right now it is the right decision for our family. When I did contact our RE I was told that they want at least two PP cycles before resuming treatment (only exception is AMA). He did say we could do one unmediated IUI without weaning.

I think so much depends on the age of your child and your cycle. I was confident that my cycles were as regular as they would be not BFing (I was charting), and I returned to my RE with bloodwork in hand showing low prolactin. He agreed that BFing wasn't a negative as far as my body's ability to get pg at that point (DD had just turned 2 when I first returned), thus the only issue was what meds were safe for me to take. Eventually I was able to get pg while BFing and DD self-weaned during my 2nd trimester. Good luck!

We are unexplained and did not have to try on our own before going back to the RE. In fact, I don't even think they asked us at all. We weren't preventing, but we also didn't really try on our own. Like @Dragonfly1226 said, we want to give our frozen embryos a chance.

I was told I had to be done bfding 6 weeks before I could even redo my blood tests, sono, X-rays etc. They want to see your body after bfding to see if anything has changed and nothing effecting ovulation etc
