Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Napping and moving to crib

My LO is just coming up for 6months. It has always been a battle trying to get her to nap during the day. She's been in our room since birth sleeping in a bassinet. Around 3/4 months she had outgrown it so we used a travel cot with bassinet insert to keep her in our room. I started getting her to nap in her crib in her room during the day and it started off ok, but now not a chance. The past week or so I can only get her to nap in her pram or on my bed after a little rocking and I nap beside her. I know this all stuff I shouldn't be doing but I was really stressing out at my inability to help her nap. I also want to get her out of her swaddle because she rolls over almost as soon as she's put down. She doesn't know how to go from tummy to back so she doesn't settle and ends up crying out for me to go in. I was thinking of just bringing her cot to our room for a couple months to see if this helps napping before moving it back to her room again? Anyone else out there with the same problems? Any advice??
Thanks :-)

  • I'm in the same boat as you. DS is not ready to be unswaddled so I'm using a zipadee-zip to transition him. He is also still sleeping in the Moses basket since crib sleeping isn't working right now
  • Loading the player...
  • I think you might just hunker down and have a few miserable days and unswaddle and keep trying to get her to sleep in the crib.
  • Had the same issue and used the Merlin sleep suit. Was truly magic until she got strong enough to roll in that at 6 mos. now we're having to wean out of it into a sleep sack. Worth it though!

Whoa, if she is rolling, you need to get her out of the swaddle immediately. Having her swaddled will hinder her ability to roll both ways and even though it wakes her up, she needs to figure out how to settle herself back down. Neither of those can be done if she's swaddled.

There will be a few rough nights but you really should think about ditching the swaddle and just go for it.

  • It was. 'Love to dream' Zip up swaddle so she was still able to use her arms a bit to lift her head, they weren't wrapped to her body.... But we have been sleeping with arms out a couple days now... Getting there!!!
