Does he like cheese? DS loves cheese. He doesn't have a problem with meats but he will eat a whole bowl full of what I call "baby casserole" a meat, a vegetable and shredded cheese just mixed together in a bowl. His favorite is hamburger, peas and cheese but also likes shredded chicken, steamed carrots and cheese.
Mine won't eat meat either. Even if I mix it with stuff, she just picks the meat out and sets it aside. Sometimes I'll make grilled cheese and put a piece of ham of turkey in there and she'll eat it. Only sometimes. But, I can't remember the last time she ate a piece of chicken. I do think it's a texture thing. I asked her pedi and he said a lot of kids their age don't eat it and not to worry. She does eat some beans and peanut butter for protein.
Same issue here. I've almost stopped trying because we don't eat a lot of meat and it just goes to waste with him. He will eat turkey meatballs, homemade or Trader Joe's but only if they have a lot of flavoring/veggies/breadcrumbs in them so the texture is a little different. I can also mix a tiny bit of meat in a casserole, noddle dish or burrito and he might not bother to pick it out. Meat all alone is always rejected. He loves beans, peanut butter, yogurt, and eggs so he gets protein that way. I try to avoid plain cheese . . . he (like all humans perhaps?) likes it way too much and practicably has a seizure when he sees a bag of shredded cheese. I'm worried that it will one day be all he'll eat and he's a great eater right now so I want to delay that as long as possible.
DD loves chicken, turkey burgers, turkey sausage, meatballs, ground meat, shredded pork, chicken nuggets, and pretty much every other form of meat she's tried. With chicken, I steam, poach or grill it just until it reaches safe temperature, so it's still very moist and tender. Then I chop it or shred it pretty finely so she can chew it easily. I will say DD is generally an enthusiastic eater and very good at chewing for her age.
DS doesn't like meat either. He's never picked up a piece of meat and stuffed it in his mouth. I always cut up meat really small with whatever he is having...quesadilla, grilled cheese, rice and veges, pasta. I mean...really small pieces. Or I make soup with chicken or pork ribs and I figure he gets some "meat" out of it.
DD eats all kinds of meat. I think it could be a texture thing... We started with ground turkey at 8 months. Try shredded or ground meats mixed with a soft veggie like sweet potato. See if he will take it in the mix.
