Sleep... What's that? Help/Advice/Vent needed

Brayden (10mos) has never been a great sleeper; always a cat napper and NEVER slept through the night (maybe 3 times tops).
  • However from like 3- 6 months he was pretty good about only being up once to twice a night usually around 1am and 4am. But always was VERY easy to put down. When he'd wake up he'd eat and fall right back to sleep.
  • Then he started getting up 3x a night, and at that third time we were just bringing him into our bed so i could nurse him laying down.
  • For the past 1-2 months he is impossible to be put down when he wakes up in the middle of the night- doesn't matter if he is out cold on the boppy he is instantly awake when i lay him in the crib. so this then leads to him co-sleeping with us. Which is all great for cuddles- but i don't want to create a monster and start bad habits (although i think were WAY too far down this road now :( )
  • Now he is waking up approximately every hour and the only way he will go back down is nursing... and he is waking up CRYING... not fussy full blow crying... Which is also new.
So moms,
What is going on with my little man in your opinion? What can i do to try and ease the situation? I am a very tired momma and I am open to hearing some of your suggestions/experiences...

Couple other notes:
  • No teeth popping through, or even bumps so i dont think he is teething
  • He eats dinner (purees) around 7, and then nurses/gets bottle around 830 at bed time
  • Goes down first thing no problem in crib, but when wakes in middle of the night will not go back down
  • we've tried CIO... doesn't work for us.
Thanks :)

  • We dont have the room for a cot/makeshift bed in his room - but could possibly use the pack and play or something equivalent in our bedroom to help him sleep alone again but with us close by and then eventually switching him back to his crib.

The singing is a great idea; we've always done white noise but lately have been singing to him to get him down at bedtime and it works good (finally eliminated rocking/walking with him!) We've thought about recording our selves singing  and having it play in his room at night as well.

Thank you for your advice :)

Have you had him checked for an ear infection? The only way I ever know if L has one, is when his sleep turns to complete crap. And then he is most comfortable sleeping on me and hates the crib because the ear fluid is uncomfortable when he lays flat. Otherwise, I don't know but hang in there! It all passes eventually.
