Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What milestones has your 8 month old reached?

I've never put to much concern into milestones, until I received my weekly email this week from one of the baby websites.  I know all babies are different and reach milestones at different times.  I guess I was bothered by the fact that it said that your baby may be doing all of them or just a few (craweling, pulling herself up, clapping, waving, etc.).  Well, mine doesn't do any of those.  lol I am also concerned because she rolls from back to tummy and gets stuck that way.  I have seen her roll the other way a long time ago.  She is a happy baby and can sit unassisted now.  Just curious what other people's lo's are doing.  :)

Re: What milestones has your 8 month old reached?

  • My DS will be 8 months old in 5 days. He cannot pull himself up, crawl, clap, wave, or go from laying to sitting unassisted. He can roll both ways, rock on his hands and knees, hold his own bottle,  and stand while leaning/holding on. He babbles and talks a lot, too. I know all babies develop differently so I'm not concerned. He's been sick for the past weeks so he's slowing down a little with milestones, more fussy and less developing, poor guy :(

Don't worry though :) She seems right on track and happiness is what's important!

  • My son will be will be 8 months old in 5 days.. He started sitting unassisted at 5 months.. Did the army crawl at 6 months.. Crawled on all 4s by 7 months.. Started pulling himself up at about 7 months and walks while holding onto our ottoman. He says ba-ba and da-da but doesn't clap yet or wave.. I wouldn't worry about it, like you said all babies are different and babies excel in different areas before others.. Some may focus on physical stuff more before they focus on other areas. If you are concerned you could mention your concerns with your ped. Otherwise just be patient she will come around
  • DD#2 at 8 months army crawls, sits un assisted, occasionally pulls to a stand (when chasing after my cell phone), claps, nothing more then baba and rara for babbling.

DD#1 at 8 months was crawling, pulling up, attempting to walk, sitting unassisted, climbing the stairs, saying mama and dada, clapping.

  • My daughter will be 9 months next Friday. She sits unassisted (at 6 months), crawls (7.5-8 months), can can pull herself up to her knees or one leg, she waves, she can stand assisted for a few mins, she talks, screams, whispers, she likes da -da, na-na mmmm (that's what it sounds like to me), she can roll both ways but she is pretty lazy about it. She doesn't clap and she tries to hold her own bottle but she is easily distracted during feedings.

There's a little boy that she goes to daycare with and he is 11 months old. He is not crawling  yet either. But he is doing some things my daughter never did like holding his own bottle, army crawl and he likes to roll over all the time.
  • My daughter will be 8months next week.  She can very clearly say "mum" and "mumma" but no mamamama, dadadadada, babababab or anything else.  Though she is constantly making noise.  Still trying to figure out if she uses mum with purpose.  She seems to always do it when I am not paying attention to her, trying to get her to sleep, when I'm driving and she's alone in back seat etc.  Today she was doing it while nursing.

She sits unassisted and can reach all the way forward and get herself back up.  She can rock on her hands and knees but does not attempt to move. She can army crawl but doesn't move too far.  If you hold her hand she will pull herself to a stand...she will try to take a few steps but she doesn't pull up or hold herself up on anything else.

No clapping or waving.  No teeth.  I think for us the problem is she is too content to just sit where we plop her and play with a couple of toys so she has little reason to try and be mobile.

  • My dd is 8 months and week. She had been crawling well for a couple weeks and during well for maybe 2 months. She just today started pulling up. She doesn't say any words or wave yet. She sometimes claps.

I think that's the problem with ours.  She is a happy baby and will just sit where we plop her.  Pick out every toy in her toy box, but if one is out of reach...oh well!  She doesn't care.  :)

  • My LO will be 8 months on Tuesday...like you said all baby develop differently, mine was sitting unassisted at 5.5 months but rarely rolled from belly to back.  He would cry until we helped...and then in a span of about three weeks, he did the laying to sitting, army crawling, crawling, pulling himself up and getting teeth.  So even if you think your LO is behind which it doesn't seem to be it could all happen all at once too.
  • DD will be 8 months on Sunday.  She started Sitting unassisted at almost 6 months and soon after that started getting into sitting position and then rocking on all fours.  She knows how to crawl but perfers to drag herself.  Last week and a half ago she started pulling herself into standing position in her crib and now she does it ALL THE TIME and anywhere she can!  She waves bye-bye when she feels like it but still does not clap.  She says Dada, nana, but still no mama.  She also understands the word "no" and does not like it!

  • My LO is 8 months and 1 week. He cruises around the house and is now starting to let go, can stand for a few seconds unassisted. He's trying to walk, has taken maybe two steps before falling.

He was army crawling around 5 months, sitting unassisted at 5.5 months, crawling at 7 months and also pulling up to stand around then. As far as babbling, it's mostly "dadadadada" ALL THE TIME. What about mama? :) He can also dance on cue, when we sing particular songs (while holding onto the couch or one of us).
  • DD will be 8 months next monday
    -Crawling
-can get from crawling to sitting back to crawling
-can get on her knees and hang out there for awhile
-Pulling up on everything that could possible be pulled up on
-is attempting to stand un assisted but just falls. but can pick up a toy on a ground, and likes to "bounce" when hold ing
-um. just this second i watched her cruise a little in her play area. so now there's that.
-babbling. constantly. all the times. if you sing at her she will "sing" with you

no clapping,  not really waving (she doesn't know what it means. if you do it to her she'll do it but she just likes to open and close her hands) and doesn't do any hugging or kissing.  she's too busy moving around i think

  • My ds will be 8 months in a couple days.

I'm not really sure what milestones he's met/not met anymore since I know he won't reach them on the same time schedule as most babies and I try to avoid looking at the charts of the milestones.
