I just started my pump yesterday and looking for any helpful tips with the tubing.
How do you contain the pump tube? Mine are 23 inches long and I find them hanging out of my shirt/pants no matter how I ravel or wind them. I am convinced DD1 is going to accidentally fall and rip out the infusion site. Is there a clip or a magic origami way to fold it so it stays tucked in? Do cases hold them better than just allowing them to hang out?
I noticed an air bubble in my tube today. I had no bubbles when I loaded the reservoir, even did it in front of the educator who confirmed all was good. Any tips for avoiding bubbles? Should I just not worry about them and accept them as inevitable?
TIA!
Re: NBR- T1/T2 Ladies with a Pump
Those things are super sticky and strong! You will be surprised how bad it can get yanked and still stay in. I have a 2 1/2 year old & she has on many occasions grabbed it or bumped it over the years & it has only been pulled out maybe 2 or 3 times.
For the air bubbles, make sure that you are holding your pump upright when you are priming it so that all of the air bubbles will be expelled. I flick it a couple of times too, just to make sure they are all out of the reservoir before I connect it. I do notice very small bubbles on occasion but I don't worry about them. I would only worry if it was a large bubble. In that case, I would re-prime my tubing.
It can be so overwhelming at first, but you will be used to it in no time!
Leigh313, I'm going to keep an extra infusion set in my diaper bag and one in the car. I never thought of doing that until I was reading some blogs about having Diabetes and someone mentioned it. You helped me remember to do that and not just say I'm going to lol.
obxlaurak, I have the Medtronic MiniMed Revel. Retractable tubing would be awesome!
AMK1981, weird logistics question of the bra clipping... If you're out when you need to bolus or if you get beeping, do you just dive in and unclip to look at it? Sorry if this is an awkward question, just something I've been thinking about since I've had the bra location suggested by my Dr. Right now I have it clipped on my waist, infusion site on the side of my stomach. I'm using the small belt clip and find it pretty comfy so far. I use a Medtronic and they also have a call line. I decided not to call since I am getting insulin and the bubble hasn't moved, so maybe it is just a scuff like you mentioned. I've clearly been getting insulin and my numbers have been mostly fantastic!
Oooops. You'll get used to it, I promise!
Thanks for all the tips, ladies! My pump and I are getting along really well and I hardly notice the tube any more.
