For those of us celebrating christmas, just curious. I am super nostalgic, it drives DH crazy but I love EVERYTHING about christmas. We're taking a trip to Bronner's next week (for those of you non michaganders google it!)

  • my family used to go every year and i got to pick out a new ornament.  Since i moved out, I have only gone once because didn't have extra cash for that fun being in grad school earlier (since graduated, WOOT WOOT).  DH has never been and he's lived in michigan for about 25 of his 32 years.

We aren't putting up a tree this year. We would have to rearrange our living room and move some furniture to the garage to get our tree up and I just don't want to deal with that right before baby is due. I told DH he could "Griswald" the outside of the house to his heart's content, but I don't feel like dealing with inside decorations this year.

  • We will be on vacation from Nov 23rd to Dec 7th so I plan on getting the tree and Christmas decorations up the weekend before we leave. Usually, we decorate/put up the tree the weekend of Thanksgiving.

  • We will be getting ours and putting it up the day after thanksgiving! DH and I did that last year for our first year as a married couple and plan to continue that tradition!

  • We chop down a real tree every year and we put it up the very first weekend in December.

In the UK- it's SUPER weird to put decorations up before December 1st. Most people put them up about a week or two before Christmas, but we always put them up December 1st because I'm just itching to do it!

I will not be putting any outside decorations up until we come back from holiday. Also, where we put our tree, you cannot really see it in the window. Hopefully, no one will notice I am a crazy American ;)

  • If I could I would put it up November 1st. But my husband asks me to wait until after thanksgiving. So I'll be putting it up thanksgiving day.

  • Ours will likely go up the 1st of December. We always go out with DH's family and I'm going to vote for an early excursion so I can enjoy the tree a bit longer :).

  • I'm hoping we do it the weekend of Thanksgiving--I shop Black Friday so I would love if we could put it up that Sat or Sun but it depends on DH's overtime schedule.

  • Normally we'd do Dec 1, but I have a friend's baby shower (she's due a week after me).  So we'll go on the 7th and spend that weekend decorating the house.  Trying to convince my husband we should go earlier and tag a tree, since all the really good ones get picked early, then just go and cut it down on the 7th...we'll see.

  • Last Christmas sucked ass. It was me and DH's first Christmas together, and he had a 24-hr duty shift that started at 9am. It was also my first year away from my family, and my mom had just been diagnosed with lung cancer. I tried to be festive, but it just didn't happen. I ended up hanging out with a friend from AIT (the job-specific training after Basic Training in the Army), who was also alone for the holidays. I made him dinner and we watched stupid movies, then went to visit DH on duty for a couple hours.

I intend for this holiday season to be much, much more festive!! I can't wait to start listening to Christmas music, decorate the tree, etc.

  • For the last several years, we've actually put up the Christmas stuff the weekend before Thanksgiving (insane, I know!)...  But we're Christmas nerds, and we travel 5 hours away for Thanksgiving weekend - so it's nice to come home from the hectic weekend and have everything done and ready to just enjoy.

We might still do that this year...  Although, since we aren't making many plans in December - maybe we'll just wait til the weekend after Thanksgiving...  My guess is the decorations might get left up longer than usual - so there will be plenty of time to enjoy it!  Lol.

  • We probably won't do a tree this year. Since I'm due in jan 1st I'm worried that it would stay up for months after LO arrives! We might do a fake tabletop tree or something, and I have some candles, nutcrackers, and other decorations I'll put out eventually.

  • We have always gone to my parents for xmas, thus never needing a tree. We sleep in their upstairs apartment. Now that we have kids, its going to be more difficult to start and maintain our own traditiond. My dad did put a fake one up for us last year that was really nice.
  • Sometime the weekend after Thanksgiving. And I'm SO jealous! I love Bronners!!!

  • When we come home from Thanksgiving weekend at the ILs. It will be a small tree in the corner. Not sure how to make it toddler proof....
  • No tree for us. There isn't a good spot to put it and I don't want to toddler-proof it (since we don't celebrate Santa, it seems less necessary anyway and I'm not sure we'll do trees anymore at all). Instead what I do is hang garland around the top of the wall in the living room and put my favorite ornaments on each of the looks where the garland is attached. There are a few other places I hang/set out ornaments too.

  • I think early December for us, so that way we can take it down in early Jan. Last year, we left ours up until Feb, since we were too lazy to take it down.

  • I'm having a dinner party with my girlfriends at my house on Dec 7th so they can see all of the renovations. The decorations and tree will go up the following day.
  • It normally goes up the day after thanksgiving, because I just can't wait lol. This year it will go up the day after we move, so hopefully the very beginning of December

this is what we are doing too. We will be out of town over the week of Thanksgiving so we are doing our tree the week before. I'm pretty excited because DD is at a point where I think she'll have a lot of fun. Plus that night my in-laws are all getting together and "Santa" is coming to the house to surprise the kids and get their Christmas list.

I babysit toddlers and use stuffed and child freindly onaments. The few glass ornaments that i have got on near the top.

SO's family have always had real trees. We all go out and pick out a tree the week or so before Christmas then we all help decorate his moms tree. His mom leaves her tree up until twelfth night and its one of the traditions that we do as a family.
Other than the tree though, all of my Christmas decorations go up Dec 1st.

  • The better question is, when is the tree coming down? I am due on January 2. :)
  • We probably won't do a tree this year since we'll be moving just before new years.  Second year in a row we can't have a tree due to moving!   :((

  • SS day of thanksgiving. Right after we eat and relax we put Christmas music on and decorate the tree as a family.
  • would love to get it up early but we may be moving so it's up in the air :(  and honestly, once it's up it might stay there for quite a while (take-down was March last year lol)

  • @missimone our record was June 2nd for longest time up! Wen its in a room you don't always go in/see often you tend to forget. And I was lazy and had my son in oct that year lol
  • Our tree will go up as soon as the real trees are in the stores. @slmillle4 I love bronners I go with my mom every year and after the trip I can't wait to decorate for Christmas.

  • I have a beautiful artificial tree, super tall and full. I LOVE to decorate and theme it out. Prior to us getting married my husband used this nasty, short fiber optic tree that we used only during our first year together. This year, because I don't want to bother with a tree (especially taking it down after Christmas), we'll be going with the ugly fiber optic that we don't have to decorate and is only two pieces. DH is very happy to use this tree this year :)
