Anyone going to see it tomorrow? I'm so excited! It's like my childhood coming to life! Plus, we're going to go see it with a couple friend of ours. We haven't had an couple date in a really long time. Good food, good (non-boozy) drinks, and a great movie. Can't wait!

Yes! My DH and i are going with some friends tomorrow night. We are going out to dinner before. My parents are watchin my DD for us. We will have a nice kid free night.
I LOVED the book so much that even though we only had to read Ender's Game for school I read the rest of the series. I am really worried about the movie. I KNOW its not going to do it justice...let me know if its worth it though.

So excited to see this! I ended up introducing DH to the books after we got married and he's just as excited as I am. I'm hoping we can get a sitter for tomorrow night...Hmmm, maybe my Mom?

@Twirple I did the same. I was like, "You NEVER read ENDER'S Game?!?"
I figure gotta get in as many movies as we can before April comes and we have to pay for a sitter!
I said the same thing!

The author of the book was one of my college professors and I have worked with him on theatre productions. He's kind of a tool, so I honestly have an unnatural aversion to any of his work, lol. A bunch of my friends are big fans though.

Hahah, I'm glad to hear someone who knows him say that! I love his work but think he's a tool, but it sounds weird cause it's not like I know him or anything.
I've heard from lots of different sources that orson Scott card is an ass. He's also said some assy political things lately. I loved the book(s) (he was one of my favorite authors growing up) but idk if I'll see the movie. We don't see many movies, though.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
I heard they're not doing anything with the video game Ender learns about the buggers from. I was like, how are they going to leave that out??? That's how he learns all the empathy that makes him sympathetic to the buggers in the first place!

I remember hearing an interview with Orson Scott Card where he said that he had turned down movie deals for years because he wanted them to do it right. It gives me faith that this might be true to the books.
Though I don't know how they could do it without the video game though. I guess we'll see.

Video game was in. I thought it was good. All the elements needed to stay true to the story were there, but if course you wish they could all have been twenty times longer. I thought their casting choices for the kids were odd. Great graphics, very well done, and a really emotional movie for me, which I did not expect. I really should have, though. When I read it the first time in 5th grade and got to the ending I cried for an hour in my bed in anger and outrage. Ever since then I cry reading it because I know what's happening. Yes, I emotionally empathize with characters in books too much. They become real to me while I'm visiting their pages.

@celticlullaby I get not wanting to give the man money, but don't get doing something illegal to spite him. Why not just watch it on netflix?
I also kind of don't get "I hate the guy but I've borrowed all his books because I like his work but don't want to give him money." When I'm against something I'm against it. I won't see any movie Kristen Stuart is in, even if it's free, I still haven't seen the first Expendables because I believe Schwartzenegger should have been focused on being our governor rather than making movies, but I've seen the second one because he was out of office at the time of filming. I won't set foot in a Chick-fil-a and have never tasted veal, even when I could have had both at no cost to myself. I've never even walked in to an Abercrombie store and won't touch their clothes even if they're secondhand. Your stance sounds like having principles on the surface, but your desire to still consume his product and even steal to enjoy it belies your stance.

I loved loved loved the books but Cards recent dickery means I won't watch it, unless someone brings it to a party or something. It puts a sour taste in my mouth you know? I really loved his work...

I can't wait! Yeah I heard he is a major tool as well but I loved the book so much I can't imagine not seeing it in the theatre to get the full effect. I'm thrilled @biggerinreallife that someone Who loved the book likes the movie. I was so terrified it would be horrible. Im worried the reveal will be ruined in the movie but I'm still psyched to see it! Maybe tomorrow!

@nikki912 I actually felt like the reveal was more shrouded in the movie than in the book. My husband read the book as an adult and totally figured out what was going on, and we watched it last night with two friends who'd never read the book and they were very surprised. The only thing that was truly jarring for me was that Ender was cast as a young teen, and the took some liberties with Mazer Rackham to make up for the fact that they couldn't get into all of Ender's psychological development. I actually thought Col. Graff was a better developed character in the movie than the book.
@celticlullaby Thanks for taking the time to explain. I love a good exchange of ideas!
