When to stop logging?

Hi all and congrats on your new LOs! I'm a FTM and new to this board. Our precious Karina was born 10/17/13 and has been a little champ at nursing, peeing, pooping, farting and gaining weight. She's still got a few latch issues but we are still working on those.

ANYWAY, I am using the iBaby log to keep track of her feedings and diaper changes. At what point did you all stop logging your LOs feedings/diapers?

TIA!

Re: When to stop logging?

  • I never tracked diapers, but I'm still tracking most feedings. I do it just so I can see when he last ate. He'll be 10 weeks tomorrow.

  • I can't seem to keep track of feedings like I did with DD1 so I'll log for a while. I only log dirty diapers though. I also keep up with sleep.

  • I stopped logging feedings/changings at 4.5 weeks (primarily because my husband was not keeping up with it at nighttime so it was often incomplete anyway).  Just started up again yesterday and have started to add notes about naps (in the swing, Boppy, crib, my bed?) and when he's gassy/fussy/etc.  I'm starting to recognize some patterns on my own so hopefully documenting them will make it a bit more clear and down the road we can start implementing more of a schedule.

  • I stopped after 2 weeks

  • I kept up with it for a few weeks with DS1 (don't remember exactly how long; sorry), but stopped after DS2's two day checkup. I'd say just keep logging until you feel comfortable stopping. There's nothing wrong with logging for as long as you'd like!

  • I stopped at about 2 weeks. Things got busy with visitors, dd surpassed birth weight, and she finally took to the breast so I was just feeding on demand anyway, so last feed time wasn't really relevant.

    We're one and done!
  • I think I did for the first week with our son. I didn't do it after we left the hospital with our girl. Probably stop when you feel comfortable with it:)
  • I did for a few days after we brought him home. Once I was comfortable he was pooing and peeing enough, we stopped.
  • 2 weeks here

  • We stopped logging at home 3 weeks ago when I started work. But our DCP keeps a daily log binder for LO.
  • Still logging at almost 15 weeks.

  • Thanks ladies. Since I'm a FTM I guess I'm overly paranoid about everything. Plus I feel like I'm still getting used to her. It's nice that I'm BFing so it's basically on demand but I still think I'll log everything, especially her diapers.

I never logged.  I never had a free hand!  Anyway, you should be able to notice if LO has enough diapers and is eating often enough unless you have a lot of help changing and feeding baby.  Logging just seemed like a lot of unnecessary work to me unless there's a specific reason you're concerned (ex.  you've recently noticed you don't think LO is pooping enough).

Of course, using cloth diapers means I see all the poop and numbers of diapers again so maybe that's why I don't worry about it too much.
  • We logged at the hospital because they made us, then 2 more days at home til finding she was making plenty of diapers. Now we feed according to hunger cues regardless of time since last feeding.

  • We stopped logging about a week after we came home from the hospital, which was also about the time that LO passed her birth weight.

  • With DD1 I stopped once she returned to her birth weight. With DD2 I never tracked, after leaving the hospital, anyway.

  • I never logged with DS2 other than the 2 days at the hospital. Once I was home, I was outnumbered, no free hands! ;)

  • I'm EPIng but at 10 weeks I still log all of my up pumpings and I try to log his pees/poops still
  • I am a mother of a 4 month old. Julianna is going on 17 weeks and I still log feedings.
  • I stopped around 4 weeks. We had latch/bf issues so I was OCD about tracking her wet/dirty diapers as she was slightly dehydrated first week of her life. After 4 weeks everything was normal and I was used to her enough that I would know if something was not goog
  • Still logging feedings and poopy diapers at 6.5 weeks. We're dealing with some colic and reflux issues though so it has been more to navigate the crying true to her needs.

  • I've never logged.  They did ask me in the hospital when I had each of my kids but I never did it.  I didn't really find it necessary.
