Convertible Car Seat

DS is just over 14lbs and I'm so over carrying him around in his infant seat. I have boon looking at buying him a convertible seat over the next month or so and have been looking at the Chicco Nextfit. Does anyone have this seat or one that you think I should also consider? Thank you!

Re: Convertible Car Seat

  • I love the Diono Radian.  It can work rear facing from 5-45 lbs and FF from 20-80 lbs. And it is more narrow than most if you think you may end up with 2 in car seats at the same time.

  • I think we are one and done, but you never know. I'll look into that one also!

  • What kind of car do you have?  Any other kids?  You can also just leave the infant seat in the car and carry baby in and out until they grow out of the infant seat.  I have had a bunch of different seats, I'm not a fan of the nextfit but some people rave about it.

  • We have a Diono in one car and a Britax in the other. I like the Britax, but it's too wide for our needs The Diono is narrow and is better for multiple kids.

I'd wait to move to a convertible until LO can sit unassisted. It makes it much easier in restaurants, grocery store and shopping. There are totally ways to do it - use a stroller, wear your kid, but the portability of the infant seat is nice. And as pp mentioned, you can always treat your infant seat like a convertible and leave it in the car for the time being.

  • Just because the seat comes out doesn't mean you have to take it out. I never carry it. I either wear him or use a snap n go.

That being said... Check out the FB group Car Seats for the Littles. They can help you find a great seat for you.
  • We have Britax seats (Roundabout and Marathon) for DD and really like them, but I second just leaving the infant seat in the car. I'm sad DD doesn't have the infant seat anymore because it was just so easy to move from car to car. I could send her someplace with grandma without sending my car too, which is what we do now. The Britax is very easy to install and was the only seat at Babies R Us that fit in the backseat of my old extended cab truck - all the rest hung off the seat too far to be safe.
  • We love our Britax Boulevard. I also second not actually carrying the infant seat though. I never carry it... Too heavy! My boy is 14 lbs, too. We used the snap n go with DS1, or the ergo, until we got a convertible seat at 9 months.

  • I second the Evenflo Triumph LX if you're looking to do that, but I also think you should just leave the infant seat in the car.
  • Totally snap and go! Saved my back since I got one and it makes quick shopping trips easier
