My little guy has always spit up a lot, but since just before 6 weeks he seems to be suffering from bad reflux (he's 8 weeks as of yesterday).
I had already been doing all the physical stuff like keeping him upright after eating, sleeping in the RnP to keep him partly upright, etc. because of the spitting up and have recently added Gripe Water and Mylicon drops to the mix. He is also exclusively FF at this point due to my low supply. I've been mixing pitchers of formula using the Dr. Brown's pitcher to cut down on air bubbles. I tried the Dr. Brown's and VentAire bottles but LO was choking on them, I think the nipples are longer than the Medela bottles he's used to.
We've been to the doctor twice now for this and the doctor keeps telling me to do the same things I'm already doing. He did suggest the gas drops, which I think have been helping with the spitting up (I'm adding it right into his bottles) but my poor guy almost never sleeps for more than an hour at a time before he's waking up gagging, choking, spitting up or gurgling in the back of his throat. Which means that he's tired, I'm tired and everyone is miserable. I think it's hurting his development because he's so overtired. He was starting to smile at me and he really hasn't smiled in days at this point.
The doctor wants to wait until next week at his two month appointment before discussing putting him on anything like Zantac. It's not my first choice to have my 8 week old baby on prescription drugs, but I just want everyone to be happy again. Thinking of getting a second opinion this week since I haven't been super happy with his doctor anyway.
Anyone else going through this? What are you doing to help and what's working?
Yes! Except my LO has silent reflux--doesn't spit up much. It's absolutely horrifying to wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of her choking. My doctor also tells me to do the same things that we have already been doing. She always has this wheezy sound, like she needs to cough something up. Luckily she still sleeps but I really don't know what to do. Hubby wants to put her on medication. I'm just not sure. I wish my doc would take it more seriously I guess but then again he's the professional. I have no advice, just wanted to commiserate!

My first daughter had silent reflux. It started when she was three weeks old and at seven weeks we put her on Zantac. She was crying fussing and arching her back when she got her bottle. Then she started choking and gagging and it was so very scary. That was the final straw for me so we put her on Zantac at seven weeks and she was an new, HAPPY baby. It is weight sensitive so we had to increase her dose about every two months when the symptoms would reappear. I weaned her off of it at 7 months.
LO is 9 weeks old now and has been on Zantac since 3 weeks after nights where you would swear I was killing her she screamed so loud. After about 2 days she was so much better. I wasn't a fan of putting such a small baby on prescription meds either but I was less of a fan of her being miserable and not sleeping combined with my misery and lack of sleep. I recommend the combo of Gripe Water and Zantac. We are discontinuing it soon because she is doing so much better and sleeps about 5-6 hrs at night now.
I am sorry u r going through that . Did u try changing the formula . I am a Nurse , and my coworkers that are doctors and nurses that recently had babies all recommended that I use Gerber Good Start Formula. I use Comotomo bottles that cost $22 dollars for 2 at baby's r us. I bought mine on amazon which was a little cheaper. I love these bottles; I have no gas issues or spit up that I had with my daughter.
My LO has severe silent reflux. Sounds like you are doing all the precautions to help. 30 mins upright is not enough tine for him. I literally sleep propped up w him. After an hr I may lay him down. Keep your LO at an angle. We do 2 doses of Prilosec a day. (Not sure if it works)

Allimentum was a good formula.
