Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA, life is definitely a new adjustment with a NB! Just wanted to share little Adelaide's birth story & congrats to all the other amazing momma's and beautiful babies!
Short version: Adelaide Marianne born at 9:05pm, 19.5 inches long and 7lbs and 15oz on 10/17. Use of forceps required.
Long Version: I was due 10/22 but due to some questionable BPs and already on bed rest, my doctor scheduled an induction for 10/17. Contractions started funnily enough on 10/12. Went to L&D and while the contractions were there, I was making no progress after 4 hrs of monitoring and was sent home. Endured them, not super intense and no water breaking and not loosing that which shall not be mentioned.
Wednesday 10/16 was my last OB appointment before the big day. Contractions picked up, super intense. My Dr monitored me in the office for an hour, checked me and still no progress! Stuck at a 2. Went to walk for 2 hrs (OMG that sucked), went to L&D after. Nothing. Went home with a shot to help me rest. Was high as a kite until the next morning.
Induction started at 6 am with pitocin. Winging it without the Epi at this point. Contractions were very manageable pain wise. My OB got there at 7:30, I was finally a 3-4 (yay!) and she broke my water. Epi requested within 10 minutes. Holy Moses, kudos to ALL you natural ladies. Epi placed within 20 minutes, I could have kissed that man.
Slow and steady progress all day. Dr arrives at 6pm, nurse checks and says I'm at a 9. Dr rechecks and corrects her, saying I'm complete with just a teeny tiny lip. Pushing commences.
2 freaking hours later, exhausted, on oxygen and begging to just go home and try again tomorrow, doctor gives me 2 options (really 1). Shove her back up and have a C-Section, she was 1/2 inch from crowning for over an hour but wouldn't go all the way down or use the forceps. Forceps is what went down. I was scared to death as the room filled up, shaking terribly and my poor DH looked panicked. After three good pushes and pulling from the OB, baby Adelaide Marianne was born at 9:05 pm, 19.5 inches long at 7 lbs and 15oz.
The cord was wrapped around her shoulder which is why she wouldn't descend all the way. Her head was also turned crooked and cocked down so the forceps gave her a swollen black eye. Her mean mommy nicknamed her Quasimodo. (With love of course.)
She developed severe jaundice from the bruising in her face and was kept an extra day. Got it worked out so that I could stay too (they told me I was being discharged without her, queue waterworks).
I only had a 2nd degree tear, even with forceps. Doctor was a massage champ while I pushed. Heres some pics for your time! I included what her little eye/face looked like then and now.
