IVF costs

I don't think MH is ready to give up on TTC#3 yet, so for his sake I just called the financial office to get some baseline info on IVF here at the Mayo Clinic. I think I understood most of what the woman told me, but I have no idea if this is good, bad, etc.

1. Our insurance is 50/50 coverage, and will cover up to $15K
2. Money due upfront, or Mayo employees, which MH is, can do a payroll deduction - total cost/24 months - taken each pay period. She though it would be $125/2wk pay period.
3. With our insurance, total cost is about $8-10K, $2-4K of which is meds and is definitely due upfront (cannot be in payroll deduction)

If I'm looking at this right it will cost us $2-$4K right away for meds, then just be $250/month for 2 years. Ladies, I'm sorta freaking out because I thought IVF was soooo not a possibility, but at tax return time we might be able to swing this!

Two DDs 10/08 and 08/10, no primary IF
TTC #3 since 10/2011 - dx unexplained/weak ovulation
 3 BFN clomid + TI cycles, 5 BFN clomid/gonal f IUIs, 1 mmc IUI
2/19/2014 IVF #1 Unexpected low E2 (oversuppressed) -> increased to max doses = 3 or 4 follicles, converting to IUI
BFFP Saw 1 beautiful heartbeat at 6w6d, follow up u/s at 9w showed mmc. Eff this.
NTNP 5/2014-9/2014, OPKs and TI 10/2014 - 1/2015.
RPL testing all normal, AFC, AMH, and FSH all normal.
IVF 1.2 1/22/2014 natural cycle start, AFC 28, 300 gonal f/150menopur.
ER 2/3/15 14R 8M 3F w/ICSI Day 5 transfer on 2/8/15 of one "Grade A+" blast and have TWO frosties!

Re: IVF costs

  • That's awesome! Congratulations. We are totally oop again (we can't conceive without ivf and did it to get dd). It cost us 15,000 the first time not including acupuncture. We're gearing up to do it again in January hoping for dd a sibling. You are one lucky lady to have such great coverage. Fx for success for you and dh.

I think that's what I'm trying to decide, if it is great coverage or not. I think I need it to be in order to convince myself to do it, if that makes sense?

Well without sounding bitchy here... Does your want for another outweigh the cost? It is great that you have any coverage at all.  It depends on what you all can do financially and how badly you want another.  Sorry, not to sound bitchy if I do.

Not bitchy at all! My want totally outweighs the cost, it's more the emotional aspect that I need to justify dragging my DDs through, and if the cost doesn't feel as much of a burden (that will affect their lives, too) I think that alleviates some of my emotional stress. I don't mean to sound ungrateful.
