Success after IF

FET ?

Hi girls, so we have one frosty we got our bfn and have our wtf appt nov 12th. Nurse mentioned we have one frozen so will probably do fet next. I don't know much about fet was wondering if anyone could tell me the prep work or any stats on making the thaw. We only have the one so it makes us both nervous to do all the prep work and emotional side to it as well to get there and say it didn't make it. Wondering since we only have one if we would be better off doing a fresh cycle again. Although I hate having to go through all those stims and er again ugh! any info, input or advice is greatly appreciated. I'd like to have a little knowledge or idea of where I'm leaning toward before our appt.

Re: FET ?

  • Do you know the quality of your frostie? I don't know the stats, but I think that embryos that have been frozen over the past couple years have very good likelihood of coming out of the thaw just fine. We had one frostie and now I'm due tomorrow w DD2.

My RE never suggested doing another fresh cycle, but basically just asked when I wanted to come back for my froszen embie. Prep was easier than fresh cycle, but still stressful.

    Good luck!

  • I would check the stats for your clinic.  My RE has success rates just as high for FET as they do for a fresh cycle.  They also have a 80% survival rate of thawed embryos.

Personally, I would use that one frozen embryo you have and go forward with a FET before doing another fresh cycle again.  The FET was much "easier" than IVF for me - less appointments, physically easier and I was able to schedule my transfer weeks in advance, which helped with work and daycare for DS.

Ask lots of questions at your appointment and see what they suggest.  Good luck to you!

  • Just wanted to say good luck! We have only one embryo left as well and will be doing a FET in the new year.  We have our appointment coming up and I too am nervous about thawing!
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • The FET process is a lot easier (less injectable meds, fewer monitoring appointments) then a fresh cycle.  If your embryo was frozen using vitrification (a quick freezing process), which likely it was, you should be good to go.  I was in a similar situation when we went back to the RE, but he suggested we do a fresh cycle because of the freezing process used and quality of my embie Austin.
I am sure your little one will be a rockstar though.  FETs and thawing in general are much more successful then they used to be.  Check out your clinic's stats though for a little piece of mind.  I am sure it will help.  Good luck!!!

Truly realizing how much of a miracle my son is and praying this will be a sibling for him.
  • There are pros and cons to both situations.

We also had a BFN with one frostie after cycle #1. We went ahead with fresh cycle #2 and got pregnant with DD!

We did a fresh instead of FET for a few reasons. I knew that we wanted more than 1 child and my eggs would best at a younger age (I was 27). I also knew I didn't want to do a fresh cycle later in life, I developed OHSS and knew it would be even harder on my body at an older age.

I'm happy with our decision now that we are thinking about TTC #2 as we have a "stock pile" of frosties (7!) and FETs are much simpler, so with a baby at home to take care of there is no risk for OHSS etc.

    GL with your decision!

  • I will be doing a FET out of necessity. I know I only need day 3 and day 12 ultrasounds and will be on meds for about a month in total. Our thaw rate is good at my clinic and the pg rate for FET is the same as fresh or slightly better they say. I'd have no issues trying a FET before another fresh. GL
  • Thanks girls the past fresh cycle the one they froze was early blast ba quality they said theyd watch it but didnt say if it expanded before freeze or not. We are mfi only. If we did fresh we'd have to use sperm that came from tissue samples bc all aspirates gone now.
Thanks for ur suggestions about ?s going to start making a list. Yah nurse pretty much told us next would be fet. I have 2 n half twin boys so avoiding er n getting sick n wiped out from stims would be great.
